It appears there happends to be some trade talk around the top Goaltending prospect Carey Price. Apparently they've been in negotiations with a few different teams and it looks like the youngester may be out of Buffalo within a weeks time.
The Sabres haven't been shopping him, but have got quite a few good offers after Price's recent dominating play at the WJHC's for Team Canada. The former 5th overall pick in the 2005 NHL entry draft has an astounding 4-0 record with a .967 save % and 2 SOs.
The Sabres are looking to aquire probable top 5 pick in the upcomming entry draft current NHL youngsters, and prospects. Even though the Sabres are close on a deal, they are still looking for a bit better offer to come by.

Umm didn't the Chipper once score 10 goals on you?

well then exclude the 4-0 with 2 SO's, but im pretty sure a shot is a shot. His save % is sick. Unless team canada lets worse shots against than other countries. I don't know if you've watched him but even he's been exceptional

No doubt he's good but 21 year old Halak is ahead of him and Halak's been one of the best if not the best goalie in all the leagues he has played in since 2003.

Halak has been good. But I hardly thing the Habs have him ahead of Price on their depth chart of future goalies..Otherwise wouldnt they have drafted a forward like Brule or Kopitar in the 2005 draft? why use a 5th overall pick to draft someone who's going to be behind your other goalie prospect.
I didn't necessaraly mean Halak is better but he is 2 years older and will get his chance first and the way he played in the pre-season and is playing right now in the AHL he will not blow it. Also don't forget that when Price was drafted, Halak was just in his first season in the QMJHL and hadn't yet dominated in the ECHL or AHL.

Because for every GM you find that says you should be drafting for your needs, there's another GM that says you take the best player available regardless of your needs. If the Habs thought Price was the best one available, that could very well be the reason why they took him. I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's certainly not odd to see a team take the best player available whether or not they need him.
