The Boston Bruins continue their remodelling of the team with a blockbuster deal that brings in all-world defenseman, Chris Pronger.
After being in negotiations for Scott Niedermayer, the team shifted its attention to Pronger, and were quickly able to strike an agreement with the Islanders for his services. The total deal is,
To Boston: Chris Pronger, Klee, Murray, Brookbank, Thibault + prospects Dovgan, Istomin To NYI: Bryzgalov, Tjarnqvist, Poti, Westcott, Rissmiller + prospects Gilbert, Ramo, Melin
The team was sad to lose Ilya Bryzgalov go, and fully believes he will be an elite goaltender in the future, but with MA Fleury, the crease was crowded in Boston. Losing 3 quality BRHL defensemen will hurt as well, and all three (Tjarnqvist, Poti, Westcott) are having very good NHL seasons, and should rerate well. But the team has depth dmen, and adding Pronger to Pitkanen, Kronwall and Tallinder gives the squad a great top four going into the future.
Ken Klee will likely pair up with Matt Greene on the 3rd defensive unit, while Murray and Brookbank will report to the minors. Jocelyn Thibault is expected to be the backup for MA Fleury going forward.
"This trade is huge for our organization. I feel we are now a legit contender in the East, we do need another offensive forward, but with a solid defense, we think we can contend for the cup." GM Bryce Shuck was heard saying.
Big news from Boston, as the team continues to remodel itself into a contender.
