So I have basically four negotiations near the end, one g.m. will soon be called into a meeting for a clinching handshake. I'd like to take this moment on behalf of the Islanders board to thank all g.m.s for a very lively and intense negotiation process.
One you've decided would you mind posting or something, I'm curious
The Islanders decide to go with what turned out to be the first accepted offer anyways, a deal which brings one of the hometown boys back home, a true Islander in every sense, who was the 7th round selection of the organization before being traded away early in the season for Witt, a player who is expected to have a great season next year (14 goals, 24 pts in 23 nhl games) Jason Blake. Also in the deal is young Huselius (7 g, 11 pts this nhl season) who is starting to show his offensive talents and also in the deal is one of this g.m.'s favorite stay-at-home defensemen Rivet who makes a smart first pass (and has 37 blocked shots, 25 hits, 22 min. per in the nhl this season). Sacrificed with Niedermayer is Boguniecki and Daigle, all three of whom go to a divisional rival, the New Jersey Devils.
Another negotiation would have brought much needed goaltending but there was some risk that the player wouldn't play well next year and that risk made some on the board nervous even though the upside is worth the risk.
Again the organization would like to thank everyone involved.

Sorry but that is just a brutal return for one of the top 3 defensemen in the game. I don't mind that my offer wasn't accepted at all, so it isn't jealousy, but geez, Huselius is basically a spare part in Calgary, and Rivet, well Rivet isn't that great at all.
This is just awful. Which is of course, I suppose, just my opinion.

i sent a PM to each of the three g.m.s who were closest to getting a deal done for Scott. i appreciated how close we were to getting a deal done for one of the best defensemen in the league and indeed the world!
