Carter Weber and Kopitar arent very good comparisons really IMO. We wouldnt trade Kops for Hossa straight up..just the way things are valued in this league..Kopitar is 980,000 next year and hossa is 5,000,000...
Also, hossa is UFA in 3 years..cuz every year it goes down...30 this year 29 next year 28 the year after..making hossa 29 at the end of his 3 years...
Hossa will be 28 with 1 year left, leaving him as a RFA at that time, so he won't be UFA at the end of his deal
from the rules
"i. Restricted Free Agents (RFA) are those players who are 30 years of age or under (30 with 1 year left if during the season). "
Put that to scale, next year he is 29 with 2 years left, then 28 with 1 year left, making him a RFA at that time.
As far as not having anyone to play with Hossa, very few teams have 3 legitimate top line players (as is prone to happen in a draft league). But Lupul is already definetely a top 6 forward. While Michalek would have been there next season, WOlski on the borderline top 6 level. Alexeev likely wouldn't have been. And Malone is at that verge right now. Don't get me wrong, for the most part I loved the players I dealt, but the chance to acquire Hossa for the longterm was too much to pass up.
That being said, we still have plenty of young assets to peddle and get more established guys. Plus with a surplus of early picks, we also have more chips to add to the puzzle should we choose.
Bruin fans are STILL loving this deal.
(btw I love all the feedback, shows a passion for the league which is awesome)

You should be happy, We could have had him prior, but didn't want to move Havlat in the deal.
Lupul established top 6 forward? lol Oilers man crush alert. He had one decent season last year, he hasn't shown that he can consistently score at the NHL level.
It's not perfect, but it's close even if your players are worth more.
And Malone close to breaking through that is some good Pens' kool aid right there, 1 point in 7 games so far this year. Stats aren't everything but that is still a pretty big gamble.
Anyways I should take a rest from bashing this trade, Henrik Sedin trade is next
