Only minutes after the Philadelphia Flyers GM Rex Leak posted his weekend trading recap claiming that his latest deal "saw the highest choice in the BRHL League Draft to be traded thus far" the Columbus Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils completed a trade that will see the 7th Overall fantasy selection Miikka Kiprusoff changing teams. Kiprusoff was clearly in the doghouse after posting an .889 save percentage in 14 games for the Blue Jackets. Kipprusoff was pulled midway through the game on two occasions. Coming to the Jackets is former 2nd round fantasy pick Marty Turco, who has been stellar thus far for the Devils and will hopefully continue his excellent season in Columbus.
The exchanging of big names didn't stop there as the Blue Jackets also acquired Burnaby Joe Sakic in the trade. Sakic immediately brings a dynamic presence to the team, and his leadership and experience will not go unheeded. The Jackets were finally able to unload Doug Weight in the deal.
Unfortunately for Columbus 2nd line sniper J.P. Dumont had to be included for the deal to be a go. Dumont was an excellent addition to the Blue Jackets and will be missed. The team has already begun the hunt for a winger to fill his place. Youngster Pierre Marc Bouchard should see himself back on the 2nd line until a better option can be found.
Last but not least the Jackets were able to acquire stud goaltending prospect Jimmy Howard. While defenseman Alexandre Picard and backup goalie Brian Eklund are heading to New Jersey
The details:
To Columbus: Marty Turco, Joe Sakic, Jim Howard
To New Jersey: Miikka Kiprusoff, Doug Weight, J.P. Dumont, Alexandre Picard, Brian Eklund

So any opinions on the deal? A pretty big shake-up for both clubs.

Very good deal for both teams....Jersey is alot deeper now with that deal and got a little youth along with it. Columbus got alot better between the pipes with this one.
