OK, I wrote an article regarding this, but seeing as how Eric hasn't simmed yet because of his computer being down, I think Ill just post my article here. I want to point out that NYR 1st 08 has been dealt by NYR to me before he was dealt to TB, so that's the reasoning for there deal being screwy....

In the most dramatic overhaul that any team has seen all season, the Philadelphia Flyers traded throughout the night as well as this morning completing 3 massive deals that saw high draft choices, prospects, cash, and a total of 16 NHLers switch hands.

GM Rex Leak started off by discussing deals surrounding talented forward sergei samsonov with the New York Rangers GM Joe Desmarais. The deal was quickly sped up and ended with:

To Philly:          Kim Johnsson, Paul Mara, Peter Budaj, Branko Radivojevic, and NYR 1st 08

To NYR:          Sergei Samsonov, Pavel Kubina, Sean Burke, Dennis Wideman, Shane Willis

Next GM Rex Leak contacted Chicago about a deal centered around Ed Jovanovski and was surprised to hear that Jovo-cop was available… soon after this deal was struck:

To Philly:          Ed Jovanovski, Ty Conklin, 2 million in cash

To Chicago:      Paul Mara, Niclas Wallin, NYR 1st 07, NJ 4th 07

In a deal that saw the highest choice in the BRHL League Draft to be traded thus far (#18 Overall), Philly shipped off extremely talented winger Thomas Vanek in this deal:

To Philly:          Simon Gagne, Brenislav Mezei, 750k in cash

To Vancouver:  Thomas Vanek, Jiri Fischer, Aaron Ward, Andy Delmore, NJ 2nd 07

All in all 9 players were dealt off the Flyers roster (4 starting defensemen, 2 minor league, 1 backup goalie, and 2 starting wingers).

Asked why he would alter the roster so dramatically, considering the teams decent play, GM Rex Leak was quoted as saying “The Philadelphia fans, and Sidney Crosby as well, deserve to play on a team that will surround him with excellence. With Sidney’s lead, we can achieve our ultimate goals: a BRHL2 inaugural season Championship, and continued success throughout the league’s existence.”
