Also, I was talking to Tampa Bay and he said he'd completed a deal with NY which would send the Rangers 1st in 08 his way...

either I'm retarded or something is seriously ****ed up

I don't know why I have been continually not listened to when I've suggested there be a board for posting and confirming trades...that way there is no confusion as you can easily look over the deals you've made and that way all of the deals are there to look back over, so no daily emails needed!

Seriously enough of this send trades in through email stuff

Ni time to write a big article but here's the trade:
To Tampa Bay: Marian Hossa, Janne Niinimaa, Garth Murray, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, Cory Urquhart, Sean Burke and NYR1 Y2008

To NY Rangers: Scott Gomez, Danny Markov, Radim Vrbata, Nolan Schaefer and Janis Sprukts

Marian Hossa will come in Tampa and be the big scorer that I was looking for and he can also play on the PK which will help a lot. He's one of the most complete players in the NHL.

There it is...one thread down. So umm, what exactly is going on? I've also got a big problem with teams trading picks 2, 3 years down the road. It hardly ever happens in the NHL and is completely against the long term interests of any team.

Ah okay the Rangers/Philly deal must have happened before the Chicago/Philly deal...still doesn't explain the 08 1st being traded twice

There's a bunch of emails in with trades that players were quickly flipped. It'd be easy to see if not for Eric's power being down. He texted me last night, should be up and running today and clarified then.

I just know that I have the first in the Erik Johnson draft. It looks like they might have dealt their first in the next year's draft too.

In a league where it is far more likely to make a run at the cup and then pack it in next year than in a free league, I don't necessarily think it's a good idea to allow dealing draft picks for many years down the road.

If I'm planning on winning the cup this year and quitting next year, why shouldn't I deal my picks in upcoming years to make myself better this year? I don't care what the sucker GM that takes my team next year is left with. I just think we're setting ourselves up for some difficult hirings next year if we have a few open teams with no future.

Just my thoughts...

Shaun, that is going to be the ongoing issue in the league, balancing a guy that is going for it vs. rebuilder.

If a guy sells out his future for a run, and decides to not be part of the league the following season, it will be tougher to sell the yearly fee to a new guy.

Should there be draft pick minimums? Should there be a limit to the years a guy can trade picks in? Personally, I don't remember any deals that dealt picks past two years after the present draft.

I think this is the first occurence of it happening in this league. But as I'm sure you can attest to, there are leagues in which a guy going for it will trade all of his picks for the next 5 years for a soon to be UFA or a decent veteran...and any smart rebuilding team who's in it for the long run is happy to oblige him.

Why not limit the trading of picks to the current year, or at most, to the next two years to guard against this happening.

In my FREE league we limit the picks that can be traded to the coming summer (so in this case '07 picks are the only ones that can be dealt).  As soon as that entry draft is over the next picks ('08) can start being traded.  I think that in this league, the '08 picks should not be allowed to be traded until there is a GM that has paid the '07-'08 team fees of $50.

I agree that too many GMs will deal their picks two, three and maybe even four years down the road for a run at the cup when they plan on leaving the league after the playoffs anyhow....

I think this is a brilliant idea Jamie. (Although we now have an instance where this idea has been broken.)

You could go with the premise that a GM doesn't own his 2008 picks until he has paid his 2008 fees.

And I think the whole thing is more confusing because our 2007 picks are actually the 2006 draft....etc.

I think both Eric and Bryce should seriously consider this idea for approval. Not only does everyone win this way, but there could be some incentives from the league in order to get people committed to the future of the league. Here are my suggestions:

1. Teams paying fees now at the same $50 US price, for any extra season's they wish (personally, I just sent season's 2-3 money to commishes via PayPal)

2. Teams would then recieve: a) Season 2, etc. Entry Draft Picks  b) 500k BRHL2 Cash

3. For those draft picks that have already been traded, I don't really foresee anyone NOT wanting to join the BRHL2 next season. And since only '07 and '08 draft choices have been dealt thus far, it shouldnt't be a problem.

Thanks for hearing me out guys, and I look forward to seeing you all in the BRHL2 for many season's to come.
