This article just pissed me off because Welch was sent down when Letang made the team.

Haha the future is that Letang will get sent down after game 10 and Welch will be back where he belongs

Yeah well, the long term future is that Letang will be above Welch in the depth chart. I wouldnt count on Letang getting sent home after 9. Its very likely, prob 70% chance or so. But dont bet the farm on it.
I really wouldn't take one camp as the be all end all. Welch was clearly the superior prospect when training camp started and he is still the superior (if not clearly superior) prospect. Welch brings a much different dimension than Letang does, one which the Pens are sorely lacking.
Well Orpik is out 3-4 weeks, so it looks like Welch AND Letang will be battling it out in the NHL for who stays and who gets sent down.

In response to CLB, I dont understand how you can claim hes the superior prospect. They are completely different players. Id argue that Letang is on his way to becoming the superior player. Hes 19 and already beating out Welch whos what? 23? Welch is just a product of growing up, he doesnt have all the much natural ability.
Because a guy is younger and outplays another player in one camp does not make him a superior prospect. Who is the better prospect is debatable. However before he had a bad training camp many Pens fans would have taken Welch over Whitney long-term.
And if 30 points as a rookie in the AHL on a team who's top forward had 50 points is not having skill, I'll take a guy with no skill on my team any day. Not to mention Welch had 4 points in the 5 games he played in the NHL last year while Letang was still in junior.

I don't know what you want people to say...you have a team full of prospects. You are going to be bad this year, and bad for at least two to three more years.
You have one prospect that made his team suprisingly, and one that was a shoo-in, your number one goalie, has been demoted. Kopitar, Smid make it, Pouliot is demoted. Uber prospect Lindgren goes back overseas.
You want a pat on the back for having great prospects....well I would be surprised if you didn't......that is all you drafted.
I know this is a little off topic but Vancouver had 2 prospects make the big club for opening night(Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Nigel Dawes). Hopefully they both have a decent year. Congrats to Buffalo for 2 of thier own making it.

Chicago didn't do too bad either.....Stastny, Giordano, O'Brien, Thoresen.....
I drafted a lot of guys who I thought had a good chance to make their NHL clubs, but a lot of them ended up just missing the cut.
Kalus, Welch, Bourret, Radulov and Yandle look to be the 1st or 2nd call-ups for their clubs, while Nummelin, Metropolit (traded) and Jonsson (injured) made their opening night rosters. My team's activity around the deadline will be hugely influenced by whether these guys get called up and how they perform.
