Most in active FHL league Im in

This league right here... I really wish some people would start being interesting, posting some controversial things or something. This is a hockey message board, start talking about some stuff. We dont even need it to be about hockey, post your favorite movies or bands in the general area even! Get to know each other a bit, frig. I sent out 4 PMs the last 2-3 days and see that none of them have even been read by the GMs I sent them too.

I agree, this place is dead most of the time and I haven't talked to 75% of the GMs in the league yet.

Most of them are NEVER online, be it icq or msn. And apparently, most of them don't respond to PMs or emails.

What as a league can we do to fix this problem? I mean fines just hurt the franchise because of poor GMs, but kicking them out cant happen either since they paid, unless we refund and find a guy who will pay 50 for the team they have... ???

Ok, since you asked for it, here's my controversial response. I didn't join the league because I need more friends or because I planned to spend a tonne of time trying to get to know people and what movies they enjoy. I joined it because I like hockey, enjoy being in FHLs and enjoy the challenge of trying to building a successful team and win. Now that's not to say that over time I don't expect to get to know people better and absolutely I'm not going to go out of my way to ignore people, but holy crap if you're that desperate to meet people or make new friends, get off the computer and go meet some people! I'm all for league participation and making sure that you stay involved by submitting your lines, looking at trade offers, putting up some game recaps, and doing what you can to build your team the best way you see fit, but seriously... get a grip here. If you enjoy posting and talking about things on the board, hey, that's great, all the more power to you. But you shouldn't expect everyone to be as interested in all that stuff as you are.

There is... no... problem to fix, aside from possibly a minorly annoying thing if someone doesn't respond to an e-mail trade offer, and I'm sure that's a very select few that don't do that. But even bringing up the suggestion of fines or kicking people out is beyond rediculous.

That's probably because if you actually want to ensure that someone's going to read a message... send them an e-mail. I said it before and I'll say it again. I agree 100% that if someone receives a trade offer e-mail, even if they're not interested, a response of some sort is simple common courtesy and should be done.

So there you go! My controversial response.

How old are you? Honestly grow up. We aren't on here because we need friends. We are on here because we a committed to a sport that we love and enjoy it. All we were simply questioning was commitment of the league. I don't know how it doesnt bother you that half the league doesnt check the board even once a week. I don't know if calling us out like that appeals to making yourself feel better about yourself but you've got it completely wrong.

So Eric and Bryce spend a lot of time on here and started this league for a reason. Why? I think it was to meet knew people and create friendships...right...well i'm sure that could be maybe 2% of it for them but i think the real reason why they spend so much time devoted to it is because they want to be involved in a fun, healthy league where everyone is communicating well which as a result the league will thrive.

Futhermore, We have emailed the people that have an email showing under the "list all users" page. However many do not, thus in lies a problem that your response is irrelivant to.

If that is your attitude why don't you get a program like EHM, or get NHL 2007 when it comes out. You've really done nothing but come into a lot of discussions with the mentality that you're not going to make a big effort for the league, and you basically just said that you don't give a rats ass about getting to know anyone in the league. Hell, I sort of agree with you on that point, as I'm not really interested in people's favorite movies either, but I really disagree that there is *no* problem.

I play FHLSim for the realism it provides. Not just in the gameplay but in the interaction and communication and activity of general managers with each other. No, maybe I don't give a rats ass about you, but I do give a rats ass if you're active and participating in the league. That is the attraction with FHLSim, I didn't come here to play with myself, you can do that fine on EHM. What is really bothersome is when half the league doesn't seem to give a rats ass about it. You said you like the competition and challenge of building a good team, well that challenge becomes a lot less when there is hardly anyone out there trying to make their team better.

Actually I've done nothing of the sort with regards to saying I'm not going to put any effort in. I've made trade offers and I have talked with other people, and I will build my team. In fact I also agreed that setting a bi-weekly GM meeting was a great idea for those that want to attend is a great idea that i'd likely be there if I was home at that time and didn't have other things to do.

The problem lies in that you're assuming that because someone hasn't made a 100 posts, or someone has no interest in having some sort of mandatory GM meetings, that it indicates they don't give a rats ass about their team and that they won't be doing anything to build or make their team competitve. And that's simply not true. I'd be willing to bet that at the very least, 75%, likely more, are the type of people that will participate and build their team. There will always be a few, no matter what league, no matter what situation, that do nothing and just let things happen. That's going to happen regardless. People don't need to post things all the time, or be on ICQ to talk trade everyday, or make 20 trade offers to be active and involved in building their team. Because someone doesn't want to trade with you, or doesn't want to participate in a lot of board chatter does not mean they won't be active when it comes to what they do with their own team.

And for cripes sake, we're 3 days into the PREseason. We haven't even gotten to the regular season yet.

Funny, I was going to say the same thing. Except I was going to add "stop complaining about nothing."

Maybe go back and read the start of your own thread. That's not questioning the committment to the league. That's flat out complaining and whining because you don't see, in your opinion, enough posts or talking. I hear enough whining about irrelivant things in my real life job, and frankly, when I hear it someplace like this too, it just gets annoying. You don't have to be a member to read posts, so it's certainly quite possible that several GMs who aren't listed members do read the board, or at least look to see if there's any topics they need to read, or want to read. But why would I care if half the league doesn't check the board once a week? Are they submitting their lines and taking care to ensure their team isn't breaking any roster rules, and are they ensuring that their salary cap is being looked at appropriately? Are they responding to trade offers that I make? Are they looking to see if their team is financially stable? If they are taking care of their team, absolutely I couldn't care less if they read the board once a week or less.

Agreed 100%. however communicating well doesn't mean that people have to participate in conversations or threads they have no interest in. Communicating well means pretty much exactly what you should expect it to mean. That people respond to each other, and can have conversations if they so choose.

Uh huh... I'm not really sure what it is you're trying to get at there, but if you're saying that you don't have e-mail addresses for everyone, they're all listed under the General Managers page.

At the end of the day, we seem to have a difference of opinion on what exactly it should mean to be an active GM. As far as I'm concerned, being an active GM means you continue to manage your team. That's enough. If you want to do game recaps, great! Ovechkin quotes of the day? Great! But that's something you want to do and choose to do. It shouldn't be expected of everyone, and GMs shouldn't be chastised or punished in anyway if they don't.

The season hasn't even started!

Re-visit this issue in November.

In the meantime one can spend one's energies creatively: write some season forecasts or divisional analyses or hit a punching bag.

I'm not going to lie i didnt even bother to read half that..haha and i dont know why you're taking this personally. I'm not even talking to you. Because you respond to trades and you make posts.

I'm telling you now, if this league continues to have half the league not be involved pretty much at all. The experience of this will not be nearly as fun. Thats all of our main points..take it or leave it for what its worth, but it has nothing to do with the fact that we have jobs too and are full time students and can still manage to check this a few times a day.

Sure you didn't. And I'm not taking it personally I just get tired of the unnecessary whining and complaining.

And if you want to check it a few times a day, good for you. But you have to realize that not everyone has time to, or wants to do that. And it doesn't mean they aren't committed to their team, or are being a poor GM.

To be honest, all your doing is whinning and complaining back about it..so i dont really see how your imput is constructive at all. But thanks anyways....

and thats precisely what it means if someone isnt checking even on a weekly basis. it means they arent committed.
