"I saw something white coming at me. I thought, 'Damn, he got me.'"
He is natural, honest, funny, straightforward.... refreshing.
Way too many media-coached trite babble these days.
Loved guys like Shanahan, Pronger, Hull... each has been quoted saying what they think, simply and directly, often to get humour (though Shanny lied through his teeth for years, pulling the media's leg about his hobbies and interests, just to spice things up, gawd that was a hoot to find out!)
"I want to win the Stanley Cup. I want to be the best, just the best. I must work. I must learn. Help my team. Hockey is my life, you know. If I do not play hockey, I do not know what I do."
"When I see a little boy, I remember when I was little and I used to stand and wait for some guy I would go to after a game. They are fans, and they want my signature. They live in Washington, and they are fans of our team. I think if I signed 10 signatures and there were 20 more fans waiting and I didn't sign for them also, they would want to know why, and I would feel bad. If you have time, why not sign them all?"
"I’m going to play as much time as they give me. I’m only 20, and I have a wagon and a carriage full of power." "When I have a chance to shot, I like to shot it. I love scoring goals. But I'm trying to help the team win games. If we win and I score, I'm really happy."
"Everybody in my country is jumping and drinking lots of vodka. We did it and we beat a great team." (following Russia's win over Canada at the Olympics)
