I've added everyone to ICQ that is listed on the GM page, yet there are probably 15 GMs I've never talked to and there are usually 3-5 GMs online at a time, usually all the same ones.
Do a lot of people use MSN Messenger or what?
I would love it if we could have a leaguewide chat every 2 weeks or so, for anyone that can make it, for talking trade and such.

Well, I just looked down the GM list and about 5 people have hotmail accounts. I guess it's great to get ICQ for the league, but if you're never online, what's the point.
GM meeting are a definite must, I would even suggest making it mandatory to attend 1 of 2 per month.

I certainly don't see any need for anything "mandatory" unless there's a very specific and particular issue to discuss, and even then, there's almost nothing that can't simply be done via an online vote or e-mail. And to put it bluntly, this is something that is for fun, and there's a hell of a lot of other things that take priority, so there's absolutely no way that I'd be interested in mandatory GM meetings just so guys can talk trade or whatever.
If you want to set up some sort of meeting time where it's a designated and scheduled time for anybody that's interested and can make it to discuss things, have at it, I'm sure there will be interested parties. Hell, I'd be one of them, if I'm available at that time, but it's really highly unlikely that I'd reschedule anything else just to be there without a particular issue to discuss.
Sure it would be nice if everyone was on ICQ all the time, but it's just not going to happen. Send an e-mail... I do believe that everyone should always reply to an e-mail, even if the answer is "no, not interested", and that's it.

I guess, I think it's nice to have that one on one contact via messenger or chat rather than email. It's kind of a shame, there are some GMs who haven't even posted on the board yet. It kind of gives you the feeling of playing with yourself, although that can be nice.
And I don't see why GMs can't schedule half an hour once a month for the league, not too much to ask IMO. We could also use it to discuss league issues, rule changes, etc.

Scheduling it is fine and good for those that can attend without difficulty. But I'm sure there's plenty of people around who have weekly committments to things, or simply will have something else planned that they would rather do that day at that time.
Again, don't confuse this with me thinking it's a bad idea, by all means I think bi-weekly or month meetings for those that can attend are great, but making it mandatory and punishing someone (with a fine or whatever) because frankly, they have something better to do, is something I'd be totally opposed to. At the end of the day, there's virtually nothing that is so urgent or demanding that anybody should be forced to be there. If it's a vote on a rule change or an idea or even just a suggested idea that the BOD wants to make a mandatory vote on, hey, no problem, on the board or an e-mail, it gives people time to do their vote when they have an opportunity.

Columbus I talked to you for the first time yesterday one on one.. and you are probably making the remark of icq towards me.... just to let you know... i do have icq. i have added to everyone on my list and vice versa.. but I only go on icq.. to talk trade with this league.. its the only thing i use icq for... i haven't been on it for the last 2 weeks because we are in a draft. trading is not mandatory at this time..... that's my explanation.. and of course like florida said we do have email.. by all means i do not mind if i get an email regarding a player or an offer.
hopefully that answers your question about my appearance on icq.

Take care see ya all at the draft tonite.
Preds GM
Don't get touchy...he isn't talking about you. The amount of teams that spend much time on ICQ is very low. SJ, me(CHI), CLB, Minny, NJ, TOR, and of course Eric are the ones I see on ICQ....CAR a bit as well. Not saying others aren't on ICQ, just that those are the ones that I see regularly.
Anyways, I would agree that it would be cooler to see more guys on ICQ, but obviously I have had no problems contacting anyone and sending them an email to start trade talks.
I don't support legislated talk times. I am a busy guy, and this last couple weeks I have had more time than usual, but there is going to be times when I can reply to emails, but that is about it.
If someone wants to suggest that Sundays at 8PM PST or whatever, we all go to the chatroom and put together some chats regularly, I will pop by when I have time....it is a decent enough idea. But legislating, I am against.
I'm on ICQ and MSN all the time and I see very few people online.
I do think a weekly chat would be a good idea however I don't think it should be mandatory but those that are never on ICQ or MSN should make an effort to show up for the chat.
I guess don't make it mandatory, but a weekly or biweekly chat for anyone who can make it would be a very good idea.
