Who will win the Calder?

I guess this might be late when its almost certain Malkin wins it, but... Injuries and what not could make it interesting or just the biggest flop ever could make it interesting.

I voted Radulov but I think Latendresse will surprise, probably not Calder calibre but he has a serious shot at getting 40+ pts this season.

Tony Salmalainen is young enough to qualify (under 26) and hasn't played in the NHL too much (under 25 games) but isn't there a stipulation about the previous two seasons in professional leagues? I'm afraid his last season in Europe and season before that in the AHL may make him ineligible, despite racking up the most points of all rookies next season :)

Schremp will be lucky to make the team.

I voted Brule because he is going to get tons of ice on a crappy team.  Second place goes to Radulov or Wolski.

Went with Brule too, for the same reason. Crappy team.

O'Sullivan will have a good shot, but his team landscape is a question mark.

It's tough for goalies, so I'm ruling out Toivonen.

Radulov looks good, and so does Wolski. But these are pretty much the only guys who will likely have the best chance.

But it won't matter since Malkin will probably win it.

If Malkin comes over he's pretty much a lock. A lot of people are forgetting Toivonen. He'll be playing behind a much improved team/defense.

IMO the top 3 candidates are

1.Malkin 2.Toivonen 3.Brule

O'sullivan Radulov and Wolski bring up the rear. I don't think we're going to see any overage players or unexpected Europeans win the Calder this season. If Malkin comes over it's his to lose.

This will be interesting to revisit midseason and see the 4-5 surprise rookies in the running or at least having good years, much like jussi jokinen.

Jussi did alright but I thought Prucha was more the surprise challenger

Also Lundqvist was a surprise last year just as much as Prucha was.

MANY posters at HFBoards would disagree.

Lundqvist was much anticipated on the NYRangers board. In fact, he was so hyped as being as good as Lehtonen and Nittymaki that I didn't believe it!

But in terms of the general population, and even at places like TSN and The Hockey News, yeah, Lundqvist and prucha were both below their radars.

Wonder if we did this again if we'd have a different outcome already at this point. One player comes to mind.
