WTFFFF is with the rebuilding?

I think it's gotten probably just a little bit retarded...taking a guy like Steve Ott, or guys like Al Montoya, who could be 3-4 years away from a starter's job, or Ian White or Jarko Immonen, who are not even locks to be in the NHL next year, and aren't really top prospects over all. I can name probably ten guys who are just as good or better right now than some of the prospects taken will ever be.

I agree... except Jarko Immonen could be a Calder finalist next season, or the following.

But, hey, it's their $50 entry fee, and it's nice to be in a league that WILL play into the future, that's what you get in a cash league, the chance to re-rate and build a team.

I get the logic.

And I almost went that route, finding Pronger and Niedermayer available to pick, with their longterm contracts, I could assemble a team of re-rates around them to shine in seasons three or four.

But then Brind'amour and Hasek were still available when I picked next and team strategy went in another direction.

To each their own.

Well in defense for myself in my pick of Ian White, I agree he would not normally have been a pick of mine at this point in the draft, however if you look at my team closely he is the first prospect on my team and I already have almost three solid lines on the main squad. I am merely picking up a few youngins because I am afraid to lose anyone of any worthiness by the time I decide to go get some.

Yeah fair enough, I have to say Buffalo has put together an impressive young roster though. If they stick around for a while that team is going to dominate.

I dont know i think Steve Ott is a decent young player and he did play 82 games last year in the NHL and did pretty well for a 3rd line player.

It entirely depends on what the teams' strategy is. I have no idea why anyone cares if teams are rebuilding. Maybe it's because at the other side of the spectrum so many teams just look at the next highest rated player and don't care what name goes beside it. The teams payrolls are going to be insane and are clearly going to be tanked when next season rolls around. Again, good for them, it doesn't bother me as long as they aren't trying to ruin the league with a one year run and then quitting. I respect the teams that are rebuilding and showing some faith in the league and building for the long haul.

Here is my concern with the whole thing.

Because it is a cash league, guys that sell off all their youth and go for it could possibly be thinking that they are not going to return.

So a team that goes in the toilet will be tough to find a guy that is going to take it over again. (Again, another reason for a trade committee)

The teams that are young, no worries there....their fifty buck cheque will be around year after year.

Well I guess the good thing about that is that no team has gone with all veterans, except Phoenix, but he grabbed potential stud Lukas Krajicek last round

There's another FIFTEEN rounds of the draft and PLENTY of great youngsters.

The top HYPED youngums have gone but the later rounds will show who's got scouting skills!
