Trading in Start Up Draft Is Just Wrong

Although I too am guilty of making a deal during this fantasy draft, I am definately against it. All it really is doing is, causing headaches for the league and each other. In an entry draft it is fine but we are just starting the damn league. You should be good enough to make a decent team without needing to move picks to help your cause. I believe the league will suffer for this.

It is quite obvious that some teams will really benefit while others will definately be hurting, The hurt is not immediate to the league or GMs though as the money at the end of the year is the same, however the not so far away future will be very bad IMO. Those with poor teams especially some of the younger or coupled teams are likely not to extend anoher year leaving a few poor clubs that will be difficult for new incoming GMs to spend their 50 on. The proof is in the poor decisions of drafting young kids barely playing in the NHl or not even officially in the NHL as of this year.

How does this help your team out now ?

How much money are you willing to lose before you call it quits?

The idea of this league is to win now not later, unless of course $50.00 is something you either can burn, or your old man has plenty of to spare. To me what I have seen in a lot of picks and trades completely puzzles me as to why you think this will win you a championship and the cash.

Oh well, I will be happy to take your money this year, and next for as long as you are in the league.

I think it's fine to go with some kids, but to be taking guys that won't help your team much in the next two seasons in the first two rounds seems kind of dumb to me.

The thing is that there are so many teams going young that once they all develop, they're going to have a hell of a lot of competition from each other.

I look at it from a different perspective, in that the teams building with youth are teams that will be around for the long haul. Rather than trying to build a winner for a year or two, they are building a team that will an annual contender.

With payouts for rebuilding efforts as well, it doesn't handicap rebuilding teams as much, and it allows them to be focused on building there team from the ground up.

With that being said, if it weren't my league, I'd be gunning for the cup to and rebuilding on the fly. But I'm taking the slow and steady approach, I don't think I actually have drafted a player with over 1 million in salary yet (Ohlund and Modin are other teams picks)......
