RE: Draft Order

That could be a possibility. but we're gonna see what happens with a couple GMs we're talking to.

Could we possibly set a deadline of Thu/Fri to have the teams filled and paid, or just go with 28 teams?

Without a doubt we should wait for 30 teams to sign up. There is no rush to start. We should get things right from the start rather than having to hold a expansion draft in a year, where it will be harder to find GMs to take bad teams.

I dispute the 'no rush' to get started as it's coming up on mid july and from what I gather we're having a 50 day draft.  I also see no reason why a deadline can't be set to find owners and if the spots aren't filled at that time then to contract and begin with 28 teams, albeit Vancouver and Chicago aren't the Nashville and Anahiem's of the world that could disappear quietly into the nite.  Either way, we are paying so expectations are higher..

Pencil the draft in for roughly two months, and it would be ideal to get started at the latest by this weekend. 28 teams wouldn't be so bad. But let's give the commishes some time to try and fill the two spots and if they can't, I guess we'll broach that issue then.

We'll do one round a day for awhile but once we're down to round 30-35 I'M sure we'll speed things up. I think the draft ahouls take about 40 days which if we start now puts us to August 20th or so. NHL season starts early October which means we have plenty of time.

I`m not saying take 3 weeks to find the last 2 GM's but we can keep looking for another couple of days and then see what happens.

Also why don't you guys just ask around. I have asked about everyone on my MSN list and I sent an e-mail to over 150 people and I found 2 other GM's. We're 28 here, I'm sure 2 of us can find one more GM and we can get started.

We WILL be a 30 team league, we've had interest, but we are trying to ensure we get only the top quality GMs in the league. Like someone said we still have plenty of time and once we get the league full, we will proceed from there.

I know everyone is anxious, hell I keep tweaking my list 10x a day. But its better to get this set up properly now than deal with a problem brought by it later down the road.

Thanks for your patience and we will be rolling soon enough.

I agree Bryce, i think we just need to get this thing off on the right foot. Obviously everyone is anxious but it's for the best just to wait..If worst comes to worst we can do some live draft cramming come late summer.

I recommend we start the daily drafting on a sunday or monday so that we get the first four or five rounds done BEFORE a weekend

because several of us are busy on weekends... and away from our computer.

Please, make an effort to replace the yahoos who can't pay by a set DEADLINE, then start the draft with at least 48 hours notice AFTER posting draft position, and start on a sunday or monday.

I don't think I'm asking for too much.

NYR touching base with two cents..........because everyone else has so far.  Well to be honest boys I was really excited and hoping for the draft tonight and purposely set aside my busy schedule to do so.  I even went so far as to set up a DRAFT PARTY at my house for my cousin Chris who is the BLUES gm, and my buddy Jay who is the KINGS gm.  I'm a fantasy hockey geek that way, cause I love this stuff.

As far as the coaching draft goes, no big deal I'm not really worried, or concerned with that at all but I really want to get the draft done asap.  I'm a fireman and have a crazy schedule and unlike most people. I work holidays, nights and weekends.  Whenever my schedule falls on it.  I'm an extremely active/freak gm that wants to actually be around to do the draft live, as well as help my cousin and buddy because both are 100% new to all this.

What I'm saying is lets begin the draft tonight with the committed teams we have and if we need expansion next year for 2 teams so be it, because otherwise its going to push everything back another week or so at least, and we're all way too excited.  I know we've already waited and whats another (which could be true.....but on the other hand.  The 28 of us that did everything we were supposed to do shouldnt be penalized because 2 jackass' werent committed to the league like the rest of us.  Thanks for listening, just my 2 cents.

I dont think starting the league with 28 GMs is even in question. I think this is an absolute no. I think worst case scenario we set a deadline for us to find 2 more GMs, and if we fail to do so then we draft FOR the 2 teams based on ratings alone or something. Highest rated player or something following a positional need guide per round.

I think we should just be patient though. The reason me and Luke have been anxious to get started is because we are completely gone next week from saturday to saturday which is when the prime time players are going to be going in the draft. So we wanted at least a solid top 7 or so before we left. We realize that wont work now and we've found a good friend who knows a little bit about hockey to help us out with drafting while we are away. So we got our bases covered. I think now that we realize we arent going to have our picks done before we leave we dont really mind waiting so its done right.

Lets just advertise the league on HFboards or something for a couple GMs, it wont take long at all. I think we should push the starting point of the season back for the first year before we even consider starting without 28 GMs.

Final word from my standpoint, no way we start the league with only 28 teams. We can start with 28 GMs, but still have 30 teams, 2 of which are ran "by the league" to begin with.

That's a far worse idea than going with 28GMs. Then you have to find two guys and say, take a team you didn't draft, the entrance fee is 50 bucks per season. Those teams will be impossible to fill.

30 is ideal, but I don't get the hangup. Leagues with 28 teams work just fine.

well, if we go with 28 I think we may as well go with 27 cause I think its completely ridiculous we'd think to do that. It'll be easy to find GMs 1-5 rounds in. Ill do it personally, even if they didnt draft there team. Its riduclous to start a league mirroring the NHL with 28 teams.

Uhhh going with 28 is fine, while 27 is an uneven number and causes scheduling and competition discrepancies. I don't see why the league has to completely impersonate the NHL. I'm sure this will be a moot point however, as we've already got a thread up and running on hfboards. If you guys go by there maybe post that it's a great league. let's see if we can fill up these two final spots!

....Before we have to fill more sudden vacancies!?!  Also, I don't like absolute answers from the commish's when there is viable discussion from the GM's.  This is a pay league, alot of these issues should be put to votes, at least to a BOG, which in the future should be elected.

Although yes I can see that we do have time, it's just that the false start disappointed many of us....For now, I will keep the faith :)
