After going to a game 7 in his first season, Pronger wants out of Edmonton, why? Because his wife doesn't like it here.
What a joke, you sign a 5 year deal, tough **** if you don't like it, this is your home for the next 5 years. Now KLow has to deal him and make it look like the playersare running the asylum, or keep him against his wish and scare off some potential UFA's becuase the Oilers "don't care about their players" Talk about a no-win situation.
What could the Oil get back? I heard Luongo-Boomer floated around before Vancouver stole Luongo. Now we're hearing a little Pitkanen & Carter type rumblings from Philly, and Hannan-Marleau out of San Jose. Nothing will happen before July 1st, because if Redden is UFA, the Oilers will throw cash at him to replace Pronger, then get whatever assets they can in a deal.
Regardless, this has sure spiced up the Oilers summer.
Actually similar thing happened here in Pittsburgh to a lesser degree. However it was the Pirates, and it was a few years after the player had played with the team and was ready to move on. But, Kris Benson and wife were "too big" for the team.
I don't want Pronger in Philly, even though the return from the Flyers would be good. I do think that Pronger needs to be involved in a trade that brings 2-3 quality players back. And the Oilers need to make an effort to replace his skill. What will kill me is when I find out the divorced in a few years...

I was shocked when I heard about this on TSN. I'm getting tired of people signing contracts and then wanting to move out well before the terms of the deal are met. Pronger is being paid $6.25 mil a season which is enough to make up for his wife not liking the city. It was only a week or two ago that Pronger was raving about how much he loved the city during an interview on CBC. I guess he was warming the fans up to his news....
It will be interesting to see what Lowe gets for him. If the rumours are true then i dont think the Oilers will be hurt at all by the move. Carter and Pitkanen will never happen, but if it did, great job Lowe. I think the deal will be based around younger players, and then as Eric said Lowe can go out and sign a stud defenseman during UFA.
Also, i heard on TSN last night that Peca wants out, but they didnt say why. Can any of you guys confirm this?
Peca is UFA, and their is ZERO chance he will be back next season. He bitched about 3/4 through the season how he never asked to be traded, his family wanted to move back home to Orchard Park NY, etc......
Plus he was horrid during the regular season and the fans & media had turned on him.
We've known all year this would be his only year here, but it was worth it for as far as we went.
and now word comes out that Pronger MAY have partied a little too hard one night and knocked up some local chick. Prompting the ole' lets leave this town or its over from his wife.
Thats the hot rumour flying around E-Town these days.
heard that in Pittsburgh too. haha. Oh well, if he did that here, he'd fit in with 7-10 of the penguins last season who were under the spell of the penguins patrol (aka the cheerleaders).
