And, this is the big problem with using real birthdays, it gets confusing. At least with the older sims, everyone aged once in the offseason so it wasn't hard to figure out contract terms. One simple mistake now and your player goes from being a RFA to a UFA.
His birthday is May 10th, he's currently 26. If I was to sign him to a 1 year extension, would he be an RFA next season?
And, to answer your question, I don't know exactly If I had to guess, I think he MIGHT be a UFA if you sign him to a one year extension. He'll turn 27 in a few days but, by the time next offseason comes around, he may have just turned 28, meaning he'll be a UFA (28 years old with 1 year left on his contract).
Getzlaf is 26 in the sim, so he is a RFA this year. If you were to sign him to a 2-year contact he would be a UFA at the end.
FYI, to clear up the misconception, the sim does not use players birthdays as proper ages. Much like the old sim the players age in the off-season. The difference and why it's an issue is because during the conversion process and the upgrade from the Version1 to the Version2 in the amount of data entered for player ratings changed some of the players ages.
