Long Island, NY- David Clarkson scored 43 seconds into the New Jersey Devils fifth-straight overtime game to beat the New York Islanders 3-2 late Sunday night.

Clarkson, replacing Mike Comrie who was sent down to Lowell yesterday, had just finished serving a fighting major after fighting Radek Martinek to a draw. Nine seconds after coming out the box, Clarkson banged home a rebound of Shane Doan shot to give the Devils the win. Patrik Berglund had the other assist on the goal.

Berglund scored his fourth goal of the year six seconds into the second period. On the power play, Berglund sent home a rebound of a Shane Doan deflection of a Lubomir Visnovsky shot.

The Islanders (2-1-1) would eventually take the lead in the third period. They would get a shorthanded goal from Craig Adams, and power play goal from Tyler Ennis.

Being down 2-1 with just under five minutes to play, the Devils (4-0-1) were awarded a power play when Ennis was sent off for interference on the goalie. Captain Doan blazed a wrist shot behind Cam Ward with 4:29 remaining with Berglund, who leads the team with eight points, assisting on the goal as did Visnovsky.

John Grahame stopped 21-of-23 shots in his first game to earn the win in his first game.

The Devils see a little break in their schedule as they now have off until Wednesday night when the same Islanders come to Newark. Kari Lehtonen schedule to be back in goal.
