Draft day has never really impressed GM Thomson, as the Wild have never picked in the first round since coming into the league and usually don't have a lot of high quality picks to snag potential players. However it was important to stock some real empty cupboards as the roster is getting up in age...
The Minnesota Wild picks were as follows:
(2) 41 Jason Zucker (3) 72 Mark Stone (5) 132 Craig Cunningham (5) 151 Brett Perlini (6) 153 Alex Friesen (6) 162 Brendon O' Donnell (7) 183 Brandon Archibald (7) 192 Alex Theriau
The Wild were one pick away from selecting Teemu Pulkkinen with their first pick, and was really the only disappointment in the draft, other than the fact of the draft going too long and having to BPA for the 7th round picks.
We are pretty happy with the overall quality of players chosen, we took some chances and went off the board a bit with the selections but some of these guys should develop nicely and be packaged for solid NHL'ers in the future... Let's be honest, if history repeats more than likely none of these guys will ever see a Wild uniform :)
