1. We are in a unique situation in that a few teams that had left left having paid for an upcoming season, when they left, and not wanting paid back or teams (like SJ) donating their winnings to the league. That being said, I don't thnk we are doing the dispersal draft this season, due to that fact, and the fact we want to move forward as seamlessly as possible. If we can get a guy in, in this case Devon with the Caps, and I believe I have a Sharks GM found as well, I think it is is beneficial to have them start running their team. Since we do have teams paid for I am willing to have (likely Pittsburgh and the Nucks franchise) stay empty for a trifle longer while we find teh right fit.
1. Moving to a new franchise. I'm not opposed to it. We have had 1 team request just moving his team so he can have teh Canucks name (trading rosters) since both are iin rebuilding mode, I have no issue with that. If it were a team, say Boston trying to move to the Northwest, it would be more of an issue. In regards to actually dumping your team. In thsi case Nashville, and taking a different team, while I don't love the idea, I am willing to discuss some kind of a franchise transfer fee.
3. I am 100% opposed to, and it will not occur, where a GM comes into the league without paying anything. I understand the getting your feet wet argument, but we have to have a commitment from a GM that they are here longterm, and not short term. We require all new franchises to pay 2 years up front now for that exact reason.
4. We have plenty of nibbles, and I have turned some GMs down that I know aren't a fit, simply because the longterm health and stability are what we are after. I would hope you would agree that when I run a team (Pittsburgh for example) I am improving them to the point we can sell them and they have a clear direction. I would rather have an open team (or two) being league ran towards a goal, than bring wrong guys in, at no cost, and end up with bad situations.
5. Quick note to new GMs. Even though others aren't the commishes, most guys have been around for years, and opinions from everyone are valued. For the most part everyone knows how we run, the ins and outs as well, you would be wise to head their advise when it is provided. If there is issues we clarify them, but 9 times out of 10, he guys here are bang on.
Right now the Capitals have been filled by Devon Cordell. The Sharks are likely taken as well. Dave if you would like to move to NYR, please email Eric and myself and we can discuss a little more in depth.
Hey there, folks. Anyone recall what Tampa Bay was like when I took it over? Bwahahaha... It's going to be years before I can ice a team to seriously contend for a cup.
Fact is, anyone who joins the league thinking they're in it for the payout is ridiculous. A true hockey/sim fan will enjoy the challenge regardless of which team they come in with. I have no issue with letting folks pay first come, first serve. If they bail, another will fill the void. The BRHL Universe will have zero trouble finding a replacement considering how well put together the league already is.
All I know is I'm set with Washington, already did my work and am 100% against the draft idea. Not willing to do that after being set up with this team in the position it's in. This is the team I'm paying for.

Well, welcome to the league. Who exactly are you? Do you have ICQ? Please pass on your info. Thanks!
- Getting your feet wet is crap teams would be even further ran into the ground.
-You do a great job of running teams when they are left depleted and always improve them.
- I'm not opposed to other GM's switching teams but I'm not all for it either. Say I run LA a couple years sell the farm and then wanna swap to a team like SJ or Wash this year? That doesn't work either but in Dave's case I think his roster is good enough and if he just wants a change of scenery that is fine but it would/could open up a can of worms.
- Steve didn't we have a expansion draft when you took over?
you are from barrie as well??? so am I.. but im a london knights fan.. that wont cause any issues will it?? lol
bryce ill stick with nashville... i wasnt trying to bail out on my team.(and not because there were some good teams avialble cause there were 3 damn good playoff contending teams) i just know eric i forget what team he was originally.. left that franchise to help out the islanders and is turning them around quite well but it comes with a long term committment.. just with vancouver its been 3 years in a row .. i found that the commishes taking over you both are trying to help out as much as possible... but at the same time its a big plate to fill.. you guys do soo much for this league.. i just thought it would be a little something to give back to help out where i can...
but looks like only 3 teams left to fill.. the true test will be to fill the last two voids. pitts and van... cant wait for the entire offseason to begin :)... great discussion as well..
Appreciate the concerns. Its not a big deal if you want to switch, it honestly isn't something I had even thought of. Our GMs here are top notch, again I'd rather wait and find a highly recommended GM or someone I know than give a team to anyone emailing with interest. We try for quality GMs, don't always work out but hey we try. I already have a bite on one of the 3 remaining teams as well. I would like to start the offseason with a max of two open teams (yes likely Pit & Ott) but am confident we can sell them sometime relatively soon.
I guess my point was if you did the dispersal draft with these five teams you would not have a weak team, you would have 5 pretty competitive teams instead of three solid one and two crap ones. I know that this was done in my first year as I would have loved to cherry picked the best team.
What I would like to see from the commishes is a standard process on how they are going to fill teams in the offseason. You either do the first come first serve or a disperal draft... Not whatever we feel like at the time. As it does disadvantage some GM's (the ones that have to take a crappy team, or the ones that are subject to the dispersal draft even now and then). I really have no problem which way the league goes just keep it consistant...
Good luck Washington, look forward to dealing with you in the future...
In terms of filling the remaining spots on those terrible teams.. I am of the mind that the teams that do come under the commishes control get about 300% better in the first few weeks, so I wouldnt be terribly opposed to them doing some real excellent drafting and free agent cherry-picking (for smart deals.. not comrie at 6 mil ;) sorry couldnt resist Steve) and get those Pittsburgh and Vancouver franchises really shiny in value this offseason... even though that does mean directly competing with very intelligent hockey minds for everyone...
If I had a vote on it, I would always hold a dispersal for the new franchises assets (among the OPEN teams Rich ;) and that way every new GM would feel like he was getting a "fair shake" at some good assets.. but I understand the wanting to get GMs in early enough this rushed offseason in NYR, Was, and SJ and then TAKING MY ADVICE ABOVE and making Van and Pit much more attractive after a very strong offseason..
just my 2 cents...
glad to see the activity picking up boys!

My mistake Rex...thought you were trying to pick at the bones of a dead franchise..lol. I wouldn't be opposed to a reorganization of vacated teams to make them a bit more even, however that would be something the commish would have to do immediately following a season. The key would be to do this BEFORE anyone was invited to take over a team and perhaps after senior GM's( over 2 years?) were offered the team via transfer fee. After what has happened with the site and being wayyyyy far away in Afghanistan I also find it awesome that we are getting some good interest in the league again. Let's get going...:). In case some of you haven't been around much you will notice a big change with the activity level with Devon now taking over the Caps. He is every bit as active as myself and is taking over a very talented team with young stars all due HUGE raises so it won't take him long to move some of the lesser favorites for his own favorites and make the team "his team" while remaining cap compliant. Good luck to all this upcoming season.
free agent cherry-picking (for smart deals.. not comrie at 6 mil ;) sorry couldnt resist Steve)
None taken, sir.
Comrie: 82 GP | 26 G | 46 A | 72 PTS | +21 +/-
Money well spent for one season if you ask me ;)
As I tried to explain to you when you joined.... comrie at 6 mil (even at 200 pt season) just delays the inevitable with your roster... if you hadn't of lucked out with getting 8 OV spot like NJ in the NHL (bumped to 4th), then all you would have gotten for all your UFA money spent is a Gudbranson/Tarasenko/Kuznetsov/Campbell asset rather than competing for Seguin or Hall....
My 2 cents I would have rather made smart UFA signings and tried to flip those guys for picks, and ended up in a top 2 or 3 pick OV, and do what Ottawa did, flip that for 7-8 assets... but now you are stuck having 1 extra asset and being in the EXACT same situation, extremely far away from the playoffs, and wasting Carey Price's prime :)
My advice to new GMs: Trade with kirk as much as possible, and sign Mike Comrie level assets to a minimum of 5 mil per year
:)
