New Sim & Ages

I understand that some player ages might be changing with the new sim. It's been mentioned that we'll be making sure that this doesn't affect RFA status, but what about the impact on the 23 year old Waiver age threshold?

I'm sure I'm not the only who is constantly planning my 23 man roster for the waiver draft, and it would be a frustrating surprise to have guys suddnely exposed who I thought would be free to be sent to the farm....

100% agree i have my 23 set for next yr and also waiver eligibility so lets make sure no one is hurt with a "sim program change"

I am much less inclined to worry about waiver age, when you have an entire offseason to adjust. That being said, lets see what the changes are and then we will see what needs done. And yes, I would very much be in the same boat

I have at least one important player who is affected by this. I think it's completely unfair that waiver eligibility will be affected .... really screws those of us who've been planning ahead.

Maybe we allow exceptions for these guys during the waiver draft. It's fair and wouldn't be too hard to track. I'd give the opportunity to pass these guys freely through waivers before the season starts. The exception wouldn't have to carry through the season, just for the waiver draft to give teams the opportunity.

Gaborik, Lundqvist and Larose saw their ages go from 27 to 29...  all should be RFA still this off-season.

So in this case they could all be resigned, ages wouldnt change because they would be UFA after their deal the old way anyways.

Assuming each team is going to have at least one of these players, I think each team should establish a list of all players signed(prior to today) until their RFA year. This would be a one time list that doesn't remove players until they sign their next deal. This goes along the lines of real NHL with RFAs based off of their initial contract(s) not completely off their age.

Examples:

Player 1 was age 27 with 1 year remaining and now 29 with 0 years
Player 2 was age 25 with 3 years remaining is now 27 with 2 years
Player 3 was age 26 with 3 years remaining is now 28 with 2 years
Player 4 was age 25 with 1 year remaining is now 27 with 0 years

In this scenario, Player 1 and Player 2 would be RFA. Player 3 would not be an RFA at the end of the contract because he would not have been one in the old system. Player 4 would remain an RFA, but would not sign a 1-year deal just to remain on the RFA list.

This would be a one time fix that would keep everyone happy as long as we kept the RFA list public (on the forum) so we can assess players for trades/signings. I know it's soon, but I think this option could help everyone out fairly.

so i know i did alot of the paper work tallying in new players ages and such.. but just if im clear... alot and i'd say about half my team their ages are increasing by 2 yrs.... this is now "not an error" but corrected and if so..... a player like Raffi Torres on my team.. is now clearly a UFA.. under the new sim and not RFA under the old sim.. he is 27 right now but will be jumping to 29 yrs old and on last year of contract..

Best solution I can think of for this is to deal with all of the guys affected this offseason.

Example:

Thomas Vanek was 25 and signed 3 years until RFA age at 28

Thomas Vanek is now 27 with 2 yrs left on his deal.

The best solution is to just make Vanek 27 with 1 yr left and I can renegotiate his contract in the last year of his RFA eligibility.  Much like it would have been in the old system.

Also as Dave showed with Torres let a player in that situation be signed as if he was in the old system.....

Yup on all accounts. for guys affected I'll touch base with each GM on an individual basis and come to something that works best.

Waiting till after deadline to start that process though

The only player this affects me with is Adam Burish. He was just re-signed to a one year deal where he should be 27 but now he's listed as 28, making him a UFA after next season rather than a RFA. But, seeing as it's only Adam Burish, it's not like it would be the end of the world if I lost him earlier smile

This mean's you will be going to each team and informing them of which players age's have change throughout their organization correct?

just trying to figure out if u have spread sheets showing whose age has changed and if it could be avaible. cuz if a guy im trading for has adam burish situation happening would kinda suck the big one..

what I will be doing is going through their roster and adjusting contracts to match the term and expirations that teams thought they would be having
