Waiver Draft '10

Will clean these up for season 6 waiver draft - Bryce

The Waiver Draft is going to be run similarly to it was last year, but we will be following the waiver rules used for setting your 20 man rosters.

There will be a roster freeze starting Tuesday @ 8pm EST. This will not include RFA offers and outstanding RFA Offers waiting to be finalized. Newly RFA's will also need to follow the waiver rules.

The roster freeze will end at the end of the waiver draft.

The Process
- All players will be called up to the pro team. Teams are required to send Pro lines (via GM Client) in by Thursday @ 10am EST. That will show everyone who is exposed on the waiver draft. If you have a Mac / Apple, send the league an e-mail with your rosters.
- Players kept on your pro roster will signify that you are protecting them.
- When demoting players in the GM Client, it will ask you to place a player on waivers, check YES.
- Teams may protect a MAXIMUM of 20 skaters and 3 goalies.
- The Salary Cap is still in effect.
- Players 23 and under have to have played at least 5 AHL games last season to go to the minors.
- ALL players 24 and older will be subject to waivers during the waiver draft. If they go unclaimed they will be able to move from the pro's to minors if they make under  $1,500,000.
- All players 24 and older will be subject to waivers on their first demotion to the minors.  If a team has had 3 players claimed. they can demote players under 1.5 million, and over 24 years old. They will be able to pass through waivers until they hit 10gp.
- During the season, if a player is 24 and older, he will be subject to waivers if he played 10 pro games or more. This is regardless of their salary, and if it is under $1,500,000.
- Players who make more than $1,500,000 will be subjected to waivers at all times during the season.
- Waiver draft will be done on the message board in reverse order of last years standings
- Waiver Draft will run from Thursday October 7th at 10pm EST until Monday October 18th at 8pm EST. If waiver draft is not completed. We will hold a draft Monday October 19th at 9pm to finish the remainder (in the league chat).
- Anyone who is put on waiver during round 3 will remain on waivers for 24 hrs. This is done to allow teams the option to claim players demoted at the end.

The Rules
- 3 rounds long
- Teams may not lose more than 3 players
- If you claim a player that puts you over the 20-3 limits, you have to unprotect another.
- Teams will have 12 hours to post their claim. If you are coming up and may not be around, email the commish addy (brhl2@brhlhockey.com) with a top list of guys, or a pass or whatever. Failure to respond in the appropriate time will result in a pass. If you have no intention of claiming anyone, let us know as well.
- If you fail to respond with notification of your actions, your next turn will be skipped over unless you notify the league you're "active" to make a decision.

Moving forward, the TRADE AVAILABLE option in the GM Client is not for use anymore. If you'd like to list someone as trade available, you can use the Trade Block section on the board. Instead, the TRADE AVAILABLE option in the sim will be checked for players who aren't allowed to play in the minors. This will help in tracking the waiver activity.

ANSWERED IN COLOR BELOW ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT HAD POPPED UP LAST YEAR.

1. All players are being called up to the pro's, you need to send lines in with an appropriate 23 man roster. Any players 24 and older being demoted to minors will be exposed to waivers. When you try and send them down in the files to be posted tonight, it will tell you they are going to minors.

2. For players 23 and under who did not play at least 5 games in AHL last season, they too would have to clear waivers to be demoted. So if someone wanted to send Tavares to minors, he would have to be exposed. While the sim obviously doesn't detect this, I will do a scan of the final rosters and make note of them, plus you guys are great at policing yourselves (we've trained you well ;) ).

3. No you can not use a goaltender slot for another player.

4. Files will be updated to their most recent status Thursday evening (likely 7-8pm EST) prior to the start of the waiver draft.

5. If a team does not send their lines in to determine who is exposed. I will do it for them, and that team will waive the opportunity to claim anyone in waiver draft.

---------------------------------------------------------

1. Guys 23 and under staying in pros don't have to clear waivers, so they can be kept on the pro squad in your lines obviously.

2. Rookies are not exempt from waivers.

3. Players who pass through waivers right now will show up as suspended in the farm portal for 99 games. This is normal.

----------------------------------------

Keep it real simple guys

Make your 23 man pro roster. Anyone sent to minors who is over 24 will be exposed to waivers, and the sim will tell you so.

-----------------------------------------

I'm sure I'll have more to clarify and also answer some more specific questions.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BRHL2 $$$$, SEND THE LEAGUE AN E-MAIL. I HAVE SOME WAIVER TRACKING TYPE OF JOBS AVAILABLE. /caps lock

What is going to happen with guys who we qualified but let go to RFA who didn't get contract offers?  Are they just going to get renewed at the qualifier or what?

They will stay with their qualifier probably (and I will finalize this at a later date) until 3-4 weeks into the season. At that point I will likely allow a 1 year re-signing for league minimum. Assuming that if they've lasted that far, there really isn't too much interest in them.

Players who didn't play at least 10 AHL / NHL games last season and were sent back to Juniors weren't created in the sim. So there should be an amount of young players who played only a few games who weren't created.

Protecting your players only concerns roster players. You do not need to worry about players who are on your prospect list.

An example has been brought to my attention of Casey Wellman. Played for University of Massachusetts last year, then played 12 games for the Wild after that. He would need to clear waivers because he did not play at least 5 AHL games.

Also, you can protect a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goalies, but are allowed a MAX of 20 skaters and 3 goalies. If you have less than 20 skaters and/or 3 goalies and you claim someone, you do not have to unprotect / waive someone.

I would like to expose player(s) that are making more than 1.5 Million however the program doesn't allow them to go to minors, how can I submit these so that they are exposed.

Thanks,

Just had someone else ask that. I will fix that in the sim when I update tonight. You can submit your lines as usual, if you are able to put the players you want to demote as scratches. Then send an e-mail to brhl2@brhlhockey.com, and let me know which players you'd like me to demote for you. I will fix it in the sim so that you'll be able to do that yourself, but for now you can follow those the steps I listed above.

My problem is can't submit at all due to being over on salary cap, if I can move a guy on waivers then all is well, or i can just submit the list manually if it won't work in the portal right now...

Thanks,

...Derek

Curious, when you state we can "protect" you don't expect us to actually use the protect feature/indicator within SimonT do you? We just need to keep the protected players in either the pro roster or scratched, correct?

FYI, I added this rule:

- You CAN put someone on waivers who makes more than $1,500,000 at this point in time. However, if that player goes unclaimed, the player will return to your pro roster and you will need to fit him in accordingly.

Since when? Not a fan of this being sprung on us just before the waiver draft.

Nevermind that rule, I confused myself on two different rules. It's clarified better. Sorry guys.
