Bruins Day 1 Draft Review

Boston started off the day with the 3rd, 21st, 79th, 88th, and 90th selections.

By the end of the day through wheeling and dealing, the Bruins made the following selections;

3rd overall - Victor Hedman

Hedman was the top player on the Bruins draft board, and the team was thrilled that he was available at third. Hedman joins Phaneuf, Weber, Burns, Gunnarson, and Demers to provide the Bruins with a longterm top 6. Add in Mike Commodore for this season, and Jeff Petry in the future, and the Bruins blueline looks real good for the longterm.

15th overall - Scott Glennie

Shuck came into the draft with a consensus top 10, and had Glennie 9th on it, as he continued to fall, Shuck swapped 21 and 88 to Calgary for the pick. The team ran up to the podium to announce Glennies name, and he takes over the top of the prospect depth chart up front for the team. A one shot scorer, the Bruins were thrilled to add him.

57th overall - Alexander Avtsin

After selecting Hedman earlier, the team dealt Jaroslav Spacek to Pittsburgh for 57th overall, and selected forward Alexander Avtsin. Shuck is super high on Avtsin and feels he has a great chance at playing in the NHL next season. With the NHL Habs lacking size, Avtsin could see a role next year with the team, as a big body, he could break in a depth role.

79th overall - Jussi Rynnas

Shuck was surprised he fell to this point, and sticking with Shucks drafting scheme, he went goalie late in the 3rd round. Rynnas will likely be mostly an AHL goalie next year, but has a good shot at being an NHL goalie for a long time. Rumours are flying that he may be traded by the time tomorrow comes though.

90th overall - Mike Lee

Sticking with the goalie theme, Shuck drafted a guy that he is high on, and could be seen in the Phoenix crease sooner than later. Lee has a few years of NCAA left, but is the type of asset that Shuck loves to store.

Tomorrow Boston has the 96th, 100th, 131st, 141st, 142nd 144th, 149th, 153rd, 162nd, 184th, 187th, 188th, 199th, 201st, 202nd, 207th, and 208th picks.
