The following awards will be compiled after the playoffs
1. Conn Smythe (duh) 2. Top 3 GM's of the year (as voted by GMs) 3. Trade of the year (rebuilder) 4. Trade of the year (contender) 5. GM of the Year (commish decided) 6. Allstar Game MVP (running after season)
Feel free to start pimping things in this thread. Particularly Trade of the year for rebuilders would be one that could be freely discussed.
Thought the top 3 GMs of the year were selected by the commish while GM of the year was voted by the league?
For trade of the year (contender) i would like to throw my deal with the bluejackets for consideration To: St. Louis Blues Todd White Prospect: Evan Oberg Year 5 - Draft Pick: Atl - Round 7
To: Columbus BlueJackets Chris Kunitz Yannick Webber Year 5 - Draft Pick: Pit - Round 5
For trade of the year (rebuilder) Phoenix for: From Thrashers to Coyotes : Chris Neil, David Desharnais, Ron Hainsey. From Coyotes to Thrashers : Michal Rozsival, Vyacheslav Kozlov, $1,250,000 Reasoning: Trading two UFAs and cash for a energy line winger, decent prospect and a solid puckmoving dman
The Kings for: From Kings to Thrashers : Teppo Numminen, Tyler Myers (P), Y:6-RND:4-LA . From Thrashers to Kings : Wayne Simmonds, Karl Alzner, Brandon McMillan (P), Mitch Wahl (P), Y:6-RND 1-Atl. Reasoning: The Kings part with Myers (who could be a potential all-star), but they get Simmonds, Alzner, McMillan and a 1st round pick. All of which could help him out in a couple seasons...
to Atlanta Thrashers: Prospect: Erik Johnson Justin Abdelkader Jeff Tambellini Year 5 - Draft Pick: Nsh - Round 3
Granted Erik Johnson will be a good player for years to come, the acquisition of Lundqvist immediately turned the Ducks into a contender. Lundqvist went 43-25-3 with the Ducks sporting a save percentage of .923 and a GAA of 2.29. Hard to argue with those numbers!

To pimp myself for GM of the year.... Major moves... Added Doughty at the draft. Three mid-late firsts for a guy who was nominated for the Norris in year two. Added Doan, the best UFA forward. Overpayment sure, but I had the capspace and was smart enough to do it on a one-year deal so there is no downside. Added Hossa. More on this below, but I added another top forward during the season.
Minor moves... Added Hillen, a young dman that is dirt cheap, giving me flexibility against the cap next year.
Turned this team from a bottom-feeder the past two years into a team that is a legit threat to knock off anyone in the post season.
My nominee for trade of the year (contender) Little + Kostytsin + Gerber + 2,4,7 picks for Hossa
Little will be better next year, but he is really the only thing of major value I gave up and in return I got a star who is under contract for 5 years. Really, this only a little more than the type of package that Hossa went for in the NHL, and that was for 2 months.

I was brought into the BRHL2 four days before the trade deadline on 2010-03-16. It's true I had some experience this year within the BRHL, BRHLJ, and BRHLE prior to taking control of the Lightning but I ask that you consider me for the rebuilder award based on how little time I had to make changes and what I was able to accomplish.
2010-03-19 12:50:23 TampaBay Lightning Shane OBrien Ottawa Senators Prospect: Michael Stone
2010-03-19 21:07 Ryan Vesce (waivers)
2010-03-19 22:40:47 TampaBay Lightning Brian Rafalski (UFA) Boston Bruins Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 5 Prospect: Juraj Mikus D Jordan Hendry
2010-03-20 07:48:06 TampaBay Lightning Nicklas Lidstrom (15.75 mil contract) Year 5 - Draft Pick: TB - Round 5 Calgary Flames Mats Sundin (retiring) Ken Klee (retiring) Matt Lashoff Year 5 - Draft Pick: NYR - Round 3
2010-03-20 10:10:56 TampaBay Lightning Nikolai Zherdev (moving to BRHLE) Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 5 Boston Bruins Francis Pare John Curry Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 6
2010-03-20 21:22:03 TampaBay Lightning Year 5 - Draft Pick: TB - Round 7 Calgary Flames Michael Peca (retiring)
2010-04-06 21:52 Brad Lukowich (waivers)
Not only did I secure young talent and an additional pick but these moves kept me a little over the cap floor for the remainder of the season while ensuring I had over 30 mil in cap space for the following season to begin transforming my team.
I know this entire example doesn't necessarily translate into "trade of the year" but it's the only pimpin' I gots Cheers!

What is the criteria for GM of the year? Is it who has the best team? The most active GM? The best trades?
Two years ago I went from dead last to first place, and a western conference finals appearance, had more line changes, more posts than any GM and lost to Chicago. So, it is the winner of the stanley cup?
I'd just like to hear from Bryce or Eric before I vote.

Personaly for me its a combination of everything, what your team does how active you are, how you correct any problems, how you interact with the league. I'm sure its different for everyone but I don't think there is one thing you can measure it on personally

Exactly there are multiple factors involved. The commish pick for GM of the year is based on probably more on activity than anything else. As far as GM of the year goes, there is no set criteria, just who GMs think is most deserving that year.
