I have exciting news on the status of the ratings for next season.
As you all know, The ratings are done at the completion of every NHL regular season. This is a rather long time consuming project, but over the years I have been able to significantly cut down the man hours needed to do the ratings, and the STHS program is a godsend as far as the ease of transferring data.
Regardless, The initial process is done, all players who played 10 AHL or NHL games have ratings, and they have gone through the initial review process. So, you can expect to see a release of the ratings by the end of the week.
The only real change this season is roughly a 5% bump to DF ratings across the board, and a minor tweak to ST ratings.
Unlike years past however, we have alot of time left in our BRHL seasons, I am going to edit a copy of each league file to update to players to each teams, get the rosters formatted etc, so we will be showing everyone the projected rosters for next year. This will allow the GMs to view their teams and pick out any ratings that may be flawed (obvious) or any contentions with the SK ratings, which are the only ones not formula based.
I would like to thank Ken, Eric, Kirk, Luke, and especially Rob Botham for their help with the ratings, reviewing them, and gathering data. I honestly think that this process gets much smoother each season, and allows us to do more events to make the BRHL better as a group. Thanks again to Ken & Jesse for an awesome job they continue to do in the BRHL, to Erica for his work in the BRHL2 & BRHLJ, to Rob for BRHLE, and tol Steve for running the international events. We have an awesome core group of guys, that make the BRHL a real fun place to mingle.
Expect announcements soon for each league to enhance the review process, I hope that everyone likes the ratings, and has a great stretch run to the playoffs!!
I've started to analyze the initial ratings using the "player-rating" analyzer I created last year... So without further ado I'll start with the forwards

Just wanted some clarification on one thing, DU. Has the process for this changed or has it yet to be finished...
Just noticed that across the board, DU ratings are down. Prime example is Pavel Datsyuk from my squad, last year he played in 81 games, averaging 19:12 TOI/game which corresponded a rating of 87 DU. However, this season Datsyuk played in 80 games averaging 20:20 TOI/game yet his DU has been reduced to 76.
If we have lower DUs, I'm just concerned that we will see more exhaustions for injuries.
games played is irrelevant, but yes I am seeing some inconsistencies to DU accross the board, will be looking at those and fixing tonight. Thanks Gareth, thats one that I missed in my prescreening.
The issues etc that people have been emailing me have been very good, some legit, some not, but I appreciate pointing out what appear to be the glitches, and their always will be some. Im actually surprised at how professional, and well thought out some of the reponses have been, and I'd say 1/3 of the league responding within about 16 hours of original emails is quite good. Thanks guys.

Mikko Koivu didn't make your top-20 Two-Way Players
Because in terms of shutting down other teams top lines and also scoring at just under a PPG clip, he would have to make that list over say voracek or huselius, no??
Just ask Jari Kurri and Team Finland's brass!
And yeah im pimping my asset!
I love this guy.

Well, I've finally looked through the ratings and one thing that sticks out to me is how some of the Columbus Blue Jacket players in the NHL (ie. Brassard, Huselius and Voracek) have extremely high DF ratings, with each of these guys having well above 80 for a DF rating. This has to be wrong.

good catch...
i just looked at the list and asked myself which one of these guys is mikko significantly better than... those 2 cbj guys stuck out but i never put together a flaw..

Hey does anyone know what is taken into consideration for the goaltender ratings? Only reason I ask is just looking at the goaltenders stats all together and they dont seem consistent with how good of years the goalies actually had.
Ryan Miller is the #1 goalie and rightfully so he should be:
4th in wins, 2nd in GAA, 2nd in Save %
Kipper is #2 and is:
10th in wins, 7th in GAA, 10th in Save %; Kipper had a great year for the flames but statically speaking he's not top 5 in any category. How is it he's #2?
Nabokov is #3 and is:
2nd in wins, 10th in GAA, 6th in Save %
Brodeur is #4 and is:
1st in Wins, 3rd in GAA, and 13th Save %
Rask is #5 and is:
23rd in wins, 1st in GAA, and 1st in Save %
Lundqvist is #6 and is:
11th in wins, 8th in GAA, and 8th in Save %
Vokoun is #7 and is:
21st in wins, 16th in GAA, and 3rd in save%
Bryzy is #8 and is:
3rd in wins, 6th in GAA, 9th in Save%
Howard is #9 and is:
8th in Wins, 5th in GAA, and 5th in Save%
Luongo is 10th and is:
5th in wins, 19th in GAA, and 19th in Save%
So that is the summary of the top 10 most important gagable statistics for a goalie as there are not stats that forwards have like Faceoffs, PK ice time, PP ice time, goals, assists, hits, block shots ect... So to me it should almost entirely be statistically based with these three stats. Here's some of my conclusions:
-Kipper at #2 seems way off as he is not top 5 in any major statistical category.
-If Nabokov and Brodeur are 3 and 4 then wins must weigh extremely high. As neither of their GAA and Save % are elite.
-However #5 almost disproves #s 3 and 4 as Rask had the best save% and GAA but is inexperienced and has the lowest amount of wins in the top 10.
-Lundqvist is the only player to be ranked ahead of where all 3 of the most important categories ranked.
-How is Vokoun #7 when he is 21st in wins and 16th in GAA. Save % must be must important, but then again how is kipper 2nd with the 13th best save %?
-Bryzy seemingly should be higher ranked as he is 3rd in wins, 6th in GAA and 9th in Save %. He's top 10 in every major statistical category.
- Howard is the only player to have all three of these critical ratings be higher ranked than his overall rating. Ranked #9 overall but 8th, 5th, and 5th respectively. Makes not a lot of sense? However, I guess you could consider his age, but then again how is Rask #5 when he was so low in Wins?
-Luongo seems to get into the top 10 on his wins alone (and name). For a player who is just barely top 20 in GAA and save% yet 5th in wins makes me think wins is very important but then again how is Rask and vokoun so highly ranked?
Thoughts?
