Some of these backup minutes are hilarious. Thanks for doing this calculation, very helpful. I guess Howard will be starting 5 of the remaining 20 or so games.

In the future I think we should change the rule so that each goaltender can only play like 4500 minutes in a season... That would be about 90% of a season.
Agree 100%
It'd be way easier to track, and is actually realistic.
Well the only issue i'd have with this is trades. If Team A has played the most games through the midpoint (lets say 48 games) and the Team B trades for him and plays the most games from midpoint to deadline (lets say 20 games), the goalie has no value at all. I know these are extreme situations, but I think that has to be applied. Who wants a goalie to help your team in the playoffs if he cant even play 3 games after the deadline?

I think the problem was the schedule had to be shorted due to our late start in the year, I think next year it will be better.
As for trading, it's up to the GM to recognize the usefulness of the goalie. If Team B was intending on trading its goalie at the deadline, then they would have taken better care of his minutes to make him the more attractive option to other teams.
Update: Now 6 left after Florida fulfilled their requirements.... Buffalo, Tampa and Minnesota only need 60 minutes or less from their backups, the Avalanche need at least three while San Jose and the Rangers will have to play their backups at least 8 times in their last 11 games....
Update: Buffalo have just one minute left before they fulfill their backup requirements, Tampa still with 5 minutes left. Colorado will fulfill their backup minutes in the next two games as Kipper is suspended for the next two games and Minnesota is only 60 minutes away from their backup minutes....
Rangers and Sharks now need seven starts from their backups with 9 games remaining for both....
Not that I think this will come up anyways because I'm sure Brodeur will get pulled at some point in the remaining 6 or so games but the Sabres have actually fulfilled their min requirements. There is no seconds portion on the site so while 323 + 276 may equal 599. 323:28 + 276:43= over 600. I know, I've had way to much time to calculate that...Excel helped a bit though.

Colorado is the latest to join the ranks leaving just Buffalo, Minnesota and Tampa Bay with their goalies needing one more start (some as little as a minute).
San Jose and New York Rangers will be forced to play their backups in two games time if they don't start playing their backup.
a.If need be Eric or Bryce has the authorization to sit a starting goalie near the end of a season if they are on pace to fail on achieving their backup goalie minutes.
