I cant believe how much of a sap ive become watching these Olympic games. Great coverage actually on most of the programs by CTV, TSN, Sportsnet.
Its probably the most patriotic ive felt in my whole life, and im pretty sure for most people under the age of 30 it might be the same...
I have welled up a few times even watching things like speedskating... and i have sat on the edge of my seat for a new favourite of mine that i really knew nothing about, the alpine downhill races that I would love to try but would do it muuuch slower.. would still be loads of fun...
anyone else hate/love/like the coverage? getting interested in any new sports?
for me i love ray ferraro on the sportsnet coverage.. one of the best in the business... him explaining jozef stumpel do the toe-drag move has me motivated to try it for the first time in a game sunday night! (usually i put my head down, chip it in and chase OR if the dman gives me enough room, ill stop real quick and push inside to find a passing lane)
another sport i thought was cool is actually the speedskating.. i watched a thing on CTV today with georges laraque and olivier jean? ? LOL, laraque looked ridiculous, and im sure i would too because you can only really turn left in speedskating skates!!
anyways, im learning lots, watching lots, and feeling quite proud of this massive kingdom we call home!!
I obviously am not jinxing anything by saying this because its been said a million times by everyone in Canada, but....
A Gold Medal in Mens Hockey (to go alongside this Womens Hockey Gold!) would mean sooooooooooo freaking much to everyone in Canada. That is why I am cheering for them in this tournament. Because it would mean so much to everyone else.
It will be the biggest thing for the NHL as a whole if the Americans were to go undefeated with a bunch of young kids, and thus hopefully get some big-time interest from young kids down there (already trending upwards in last few years).
It will mean as much to the nations of Finland and Slovakia to put a gold on their pedestals and be respected alongside their border-rival nations of Sweden and Czech Republic.
So really any way this tournament goes I think is going to be great for the NHL and hockey as a whole.
Although there's really only one way a true Canadian-born, Canadian-bred, hockey-mad fan would want it, and it's not beating Finland. Its taking it to the Americans on our home ice!
Please respond with stories of your own, or simply to make fun of me, Id like to see a lot of responses and discussion in this thread if everyone else wants to jump in!
Thanks for listening. Canada Womens Hockey Team just won Gold!
GO CANADA!
