With the Thrashers unbeaten in regulation streak was finally stopped after 47 sim days last night at the hand of the Red Wings, the players of the team expected to lose a couple teammates before their next game which has become tradition in Atlanta.
Sticking to tradition the team pulled off 6 player swap with the Joe N struggggggggggling Flyers. The deal ended up looking like this
To Atlanta- A.Edler, M.Comrie UFA, C.Neil (2yr 1mill), Edm 6th To Philly-R.Bourque, B.Witt UFA, R.Bonk UFA, Mtl 3rd
The teams G.M had this to say about the deal, "With all the new arrival's in Calgary NHL were worried about where Bourque will shake out in their top 9 forwards coming out of the Olympic break, moving vets like Witt and Bonk hurt us aswell but we really like the young D-man were getting back into town again in A.Edler. Alex is a young puckmoving D-man who plays in all situations for Vancouver in the NHL, with 26assists in the NHL he should rate out again as a top puck moving d-man for us in the future. Bringing in the best fighter in the BRHL2 in C.Neil is a move we like and will let us sit down W.Simmonds until his rerate next year. Comrie is a versatile forward aswell and can play all 3 forward spots, and will be used in alot of different roles in his second stint in Atlanta this year.
All in all we liked the deal it drops us some cap room for this year, and going forward with some good young wingers coming into the team all looking to rerate as solid 3rd liners and this opens up a spot in our top three lines for next year which one of them can now fill with Bourque gone. With a name like Rene he was looked at weird in our locker."
Forward Dany Heatley had this to say, "For some of the newer guys its tough on them but I've been here from the beginning in the BRHL2, im thick skinned about these types of things. I've had some teammates like 3-4 different times in the BRHL2, like Edler this is his 3rd time in Atlanta, I also think its Neil's, and Comrie this is his 2nd time this season with us hopefully he didnt sell his apartment he had for a week or two hahahaha" And he left the dresing room.
