RE: Finances

I don't know if anyone cares what I have to think...honestly likely they don't but I'll put my two cents in. I don't have time to get into the logistics of how STHS finances work but I just wanted to point out a couple easily visible flaws and logical truths.

1) It's common knowledge that winning and star power produces attendance. However, usually without some sort of star power there is no winning. So lets call a spade a spade and just group star power and winning together. I don't care how good Sidney Crosby is, if the penguins had 3 or 4 straight losing season in a row, attendance would drop.

2) One team who wins more than another team for short term and long term should not yield lower attendance than a team who loses frequently.

3) If one team is equal in all areas of winning to another team, yet one team has HIGHER ticket prices then the other. The team with the HIGHER ticket prices should not have more attendance.

4) You should sell out most of your games if you consistently winning. If you sell out most of your games in the regular season, you should not have to make the playoffs to come out 'on top'. The Toronto Maple leafs sell out most games and yet even without all of their income from the leaf logo, network ect, they still come out far on top every year from ticket sales alone.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but I do know that there is obvious need for improvement. I don't think we can say 'Every team with a high salary needs to make the playoffs in order to come out on top', and have that taglines justify other obvious shortcomings of the finance structure. I'm honestly okay if that's the main goal (to have teams need to make the playoffs in order to come out on top), but lets fix the bugs like how somehow as Garreth mentioned, Ottawa's attendance is greater than mine despite my team being in 1st place, and his being in near last with his ticket prices being greater than mine.

I've just done a bit more analysis in comparing OTT to BUFF:

Pretty much the way the system is set up is that the maximum that any team can earn is around 55 Million (give or take). From that point- subtract your players salary and you will get your balance projected at season end. This basically means it's the same for everyone and that WINNING DOES NOT MATTER. Buffalo's salary is about 55, Ottawa's is 42...Buffalo is expected to make 1.5 million, ottawa is expected to make 14....hmmm any math jump out right away?

STHS has pretty much capped everyone at 55 million and then just subtracts your players salary. I think if we adjust the necissary things like ticket prices/attendence than everything will work itself out. And no, i don't think we should just click a button and have everyone increase how much they make, i think it should be a planned system that is in line with winning.

Well said.  It certainly seems there is a problem with the STHS sim when it comes to finances.  Maybe if we move the slider up for finances it'll increase that 55 million cap you mention, and will help allow teams who deserve it to earn more money?  I don't know... it's a tough situation really when we don't know the inner workings of the sim.  Someone should look this up in the STHS forum maybe?
