Things I look at, and will be monitored in order of importance

1. Articles
2. Lines
3. Emails
4. Transactions

I haven't decided the weighting I will give them for doling out international play. Probably something in the 30-30-25-15 area.

E-mails?

I never use the portal e-mail thing...

Am I the only one who prefers to use personal e-mail or messageboard PM?

I dont think that the listing is a fair assessment. Some people dont send in lines every game, especially since you can set individual lines for 10 games in advance. And a lot of people prefer using ICQ, PM, or their personal emails to the Portal emails. I would hate that the league would go by a pure numbers scale from the poratl for judging participation. I would hate to miss out on international play because of that.

Agree with Steve and Ian. Zero on the email through portal. I don't use it at all. I don't even log in to the portal unless I have business to do through the portal like send a trade, or post an article.

While understandable, is something I don't like as a commish. Part of our job is to track activity, and this allows us some measure to do so, teams are STONGLY encouraged, to log into the portal daily.

While obviously I prefer ICQ, I like the WebPortal email function. Though hearing concerns, maybe teh weighting should be less on it.

I also undertsnad the lines concern as well. Any commish will tell you I am amongst the worst for sending lines in, and the ability to do it every 10 games is AWESOME, and I take advantage of that.

While I do want everything to factor in, maybe I change the spread (like I said, I haven't thought about it much). What about something like

60% articles
20% transactions
10% lines
10% emails?

I don't think e-mails/ICQ/PM convo's should be factored in at all.

There is just no fair realistic way to monitor.  Perhaps at the end of the year we can take a poll to determine the top "communicators" and they get activity points that way?

As for loggin in to the portal, is there any reason to do so other than:
1.  Upload lines
2.  Player position changes / trades
3.  Submit article

Generally I log in every few days as needed for the above items, I think that should be enough right?

I am not sure if that is a fair assessment.  I check both BRHL messageboards every day at the minimum.  Especially for PMs.  I get my home email to my Blackberry so I would never miss communication with any GM that wanted to get a hold of me.

Unless you can get the portal to forward emails to home emails, then I don't know if I would ever guarantee responding quickly unless I have some other reason to log into the portal.

Well, unless you make it mandatory, but asking yourself "Is my GM active?" or "Is my GM active in the way I am making him be active?" are two different things.

The goal of activity is to interact with other GMs.  We have had guys in both BRHLs that haven't been on ICQ more than a couple times that I have ever seen.  Do they respond to their PMs and emails?  Absolutely.

If a GM does go on ICQ, answers all emails, PMs, puts up articles, sends lines once in a while, do we get pissed because he doesn't log into the portal?

i was gonna post something but I figured I wouldve been fined for it, so my vote is
Articles add up and lose a point per 2 weeks or so
Lines submission add up and a loss point if you dont submit it (unless away) while your team is undermanned.
Checking emails should come on a scale and lose a point per one you dont read

I think transactions should be 80% of the participation, if ur trading your going to do all the other things listed :)
5% articles
10% Lines
5% Emails

no offense to anyone who does, but if i get an email that andre roy was injured and he's playing for my farm (which i have relatively no control over as the bloody STHS editor won't work on macs) then i really don't give it any notice and delete it before reading it...

is it me or is anyone else already tired of seeing the same team being talked about everyday?
