I just don't understand why they make the deal today, when they could have gone out tomorrow and signed a better player for that money. If you need a new team, there is TONS of room on the Isles bandwagon
I've heard you can even get a front row seat. :)
Front seat may not be a good idea...the Isles bandwagon has been known to breakdown and stop suddenly and repeatedly.
GAINEY has made the worst moves in a long time. 5mill per for gionta lol.. getting hammered on gomez lol.. 5.7 for spacek LMAO... OOOOOOLLLLLAAAAAYYYYYYYYY gooodbye any chance next 2-3 years.

The * stands for the fact that Dany Heatley still doesnt want to come to your team.

Adding an entire first line, a top 4 defenseman, and a 3rd pairing/shutdown defenseman is actually pretty good considering what Gainey had to work with... We all know that Montreal has a problem attracting free agents as does Edmonton
So I think Bob stepped up and made sure that he didn't strike out again as he's been ripped in the media before for missing on free agents, and considering all the holes on the team he could not afford to strike out.
The real bitch of it is that Komisarek left for the leafs taking only 0.4 Million per year more than the Habs offered. AND he never even counter-offered to Montreal. Obviously he had no interest in resigning and THUS it was important to Bob to pony up the cash to bring these guys in...
I wouldn't be surprised to see Pacioretty get a chance to play with Cammalleri/Gomez some nights. He's 6'2 200lbs and can play in the tougher areas of the ice...
Anyway, I am not sure if I will ever get over loosing Koivu. I understand it from a hockey decision perspective, but he's been my favourite Hab pretty much since he was drafted...
I never understood why he got no respect here. He's always put up decent numbers (averaging 0.8 ppg) and he plays every game with the heart and determination I expect from a player putting on the red, white, and blue. He always came through in big games, and was a solid playoff performer year in and year out. Honestly he deserves better than what he's gotten from the Habs fans, and I wish him the best wherever he ends up. I expect I will become a new fan of whatever team he goes to. I have so much respect for the guy as a player and a person...
I think "top line" may be over-optimistic... Gomez has hit the 70 point mark four times and been at 60 or under four times during his career. Gionta has scored more than 25 goals exactly once.
Not exactly the consistent production I want out of a top line.
