Expanding the field

Just to throw some thoughts out there that we had for future tournaments. SInce we need 12 teams in the field, what we are thinking of doing to expand the field to get rid of the jobber teams is modify the available field slightly. With BRHL Europe we have a vastly improved pool of players to pull from, especially for international events.

Our current teams
Ontario
CanEast (Quebec & Maritimes)
CanWest
USA
Sweden
Finland
RUssia
Slovakia
Czech
World

What I am thinking is instead of CanEast, make it just Quebec. Seperate AB-BC to their own. Then have Canada compromise of Sask-Man-Maritimes-Territories. Then split the world into Switzerland & Germany, with other nations divided amongst them. For instance

Ontario
Quebec
AB-BC
Canada
USA
FInland
Sweden
Russia
Czech
Slovakia
Switzerland (Slovenia, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Norway, Austria)
Germany (Latvia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Denmark, England, Ireland)

Any other nations with players we could just assign down.

Thoughts? With BRHL Europe, the amount of players we have will be significantly increased, and the calculator built can rate an additional guy or two if needed for international events. As you can see from the ratings, using European guys doesn't mean your team is decimated, as thier ratings make them usefull in international competitions. http://www.brhlhockey.com/brhleuro/free-agents.php?team=0&sort=PO

Don't you mean England (Germany, Latvia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Denmark, Ireland)? Didn't win two World Wars to be included with the Germans :P

Other than that, I would suggest that Team Canada should be able to access 3-5 rejects from the 1st teams from the entire nation, just worried about the possible strength of Saskatchewan et al to compete with the teams that have the whole nation to choose from. You could split up the USA into the Rednecks and the North.

The US certainly has alot more depth in which to work with than the World Team.
Whatever way you go, Making those teams in the WJC'c is going to be tough

Speaking from running the current CanEast team, there is no way those two teams can be seperated if you don't have access to all the players. My defence is already thin since I couldn't use guys like Robidas Vlasic and Boucher

The US does have decient depth, but I dont think it is near enough to run two seperate teams.  Maybe the defensemen, but the forwards would be tough, and the goalies would be impossible.

Miller-DiPietro-Schneider-Esche-Conklin-Valiquette top of my head US tenders

But I agree, I really think splitting Canada up again woudl give the most level playing field, but its something to look at.

With the Euro rosters getting guys to fill those teamss wouldnt be hard at all

Don't forget about Quick....

Why not have three canadian teams, but have a draft for each team.... instead of dividing the country, allow for three even teams through a draft...
