RE: Vezina Trophy

5. You are missing the whole point of this thread, which is to bash Luongo and the sad, sad miserable Canucks. It must really hurt to have to think of a Canucks team without Luey and both Sedins in 2 years no At least Gillis will have Sundin, Demitra, etc.

You would cream your pants if you ever had a REAL goalie like Luongo, and if you think Gillis will let Luongo or the Sedins walk for nothing your on glue, in fact I will bet you right now $100.00 that the Sedins will be resigned or their rights will be traded same with Luongo, and obviously you don't pay much attention Sundin signed a 1 (I will spell it out for you don't worry) O-N-E year contract how exactly do you figure we will have him in 2yrs?  I know some Oilers fans can be a little slow but even you must be able to do that math!

Oh and if we are so said and miserable what does that make your Oilers who didn't even make the playoffs?  At least we made it to the second round!

WOW, way to avoid my entire post!  Do you need a few extra minutes to try and come up with some sort of witty response, or is it just the fact  that you know I'm right and don't have an answer or the courage (and that is a nice way of putting what I would like to really say!) to take my bet!

the teams that think history dont matter are teams without a history :)

Oh and just so Kirk feels important I will respond to you as well!

Last time I checked they didn't hand out Stanley Cups because you have won it in the past, I hate to break it to you but we live in a world that revolves around what have you done for me lately, and lately the Oilers have done as much as the Canucks, jack ****!  Oh and for the record I don't hear many Habs fans running around saying oh we won cups we won cups!  You want to know why BECAUSE THEY HAD/HAVE A GOOD TEAM! (Now if they could just get a real goalie too!)

Rob you couldnt be farther from the truth at all, having a history/tradition as rich as the Oilers do it is a great thing for a fan base to have, when they do jersey nights in Edmonton it is an unreal experience to see the greatness the team once had. In vancouver what do they show linden crying after game seven against NYR (right i think M.Messier played a role on that team teaching the rangers the "oil way" back then)

Having that history and run of greatness is what they are currently trying to build towards.. Tradition gives all the kids in our line-up something to strive for when everyday they walk into the dressing room they pass lord stanley FIVE times.

Again Rob teams without a tradition dont get it so this debate isnt going to go anywhere..

PS.
the reason you dont hear habs fans braggin about their cups is because they had to cheat to get them..

Ya that histroy has taught those young Oilers oh so much! Everyone wants to win the cup just because they have "tradition" doesn't mean Gagner or Hemsky want to win the cup anymore the Kesler or the Twins.

seeing how that edmonton can't win the cup unless they have about 6 potential all-stars, it means that they can never win a cup unless they have the same.... would pretty damaging wouldn't it to morale wouldn't it?

Of course anyone would like to have a goalie like Luongo, especially the Oilers (considering our organizational strength is definitely not G)

I don't need to take your money, I will simply mock your agent (I mean GM) & owner who loves the spotlight and hanging with the players, and then I will 100% guarantee that Luey walks away from your team next year, and laugh my ass off after it all goes down.

Sundin came to the Canucks as a for-sure 1 year agreement?? No chance he's coming back?? No chance you still have to pay him 6+ mil next year because your agent (I mean GM) obviously has an infatuation with the guy.

And as for my Oilers, I am way happier missing the playoffs THIS SEASON ONLY because it meant getting rid of a coach who frankly I never did like.. and if we would have made the playoffs and got our asses handed to us in the 2nd round like the Canucks did, it likely would have meant another couple of years of MacT... which would have hampered the organization worse than missing the playoff experience did for likely 5-6 games is all this year.

PS. Sorry for my delayed response Rob but I was hoping that like all 4 of you super nucklehead fans in this league would jump all over me because I purposely posted to get a response about YOUR FRANCHISE GOALTENDER REALIZING HE'S BETTER OFF WITH A DIFFERENT TEAM AND HANGING YOU GUYS OUT TO DRY NEXT YEAR AT THIS TIME.. BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN YOU WILL BE OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS COME CONFERENCE FINALS!!!

ahahahhaha

PPS. Kirk did you like the caps??

a) The Sharks would have swept the Oilers in the 1st round.

b) Luongo will be offered a fat contract to remain in Vancouver, if he doesn't take it then he'll probably return to the Eastern conference where his wife is from.

c) The Oilers are not a playoff team, they are too small to manage the increased intensity of the playoffs. I highly doubt that the Oilers will win a cup within the next twenty years (or even longer). The only way the Oilers win cups is if they have the first 8 picks in a draft where everyone has the ability of Gretzky and Messier.

d) Why the Oilers won't win a cup? Since 1994, the Oilers have had 3 players (from their first round picks) currently on the Oilers NHL roster. Considering that they've had at least 1 pick in the first round since 1994, considering that your most successful player was Ryan Smyth (who the Oilers took 2 spots after Jason Bonsignore), the Oilers can't draft.

Come on Gareth, there are lots of ways to trash the Oilers.  Your arguments are not compelling at all.  When comparing draft histories of both Oilers and Canucks in the first round, that is like Rosanne telling Rosie O'donnell that she is a fat pig.

What kind of argument is (c)?  That is like saying the Canucks won't ever win a cup unless they relocate to Lilea and get Swedish territorial protection.

b) is true.
a) is also likely to be true as well.

The Oilers up to this moment have been a bush league run franchise since the mid 90s.  The last cup run was a fluke that only happened due to the ineptitude of the Canucks allowing the Oil to back into the playoffs. (Thanks by the way).

Until they break the Oild Boys Club, the will be living in B.S. nepotism and going backwards faster than you can say Oren Koules.

That said, all this talk about tradition and what have you done for me lately is lame as it only ever exists between a team with some previous championships and one without.

Although you can ask yourselves if you would rather be a fan of a team with tradition as opposed to not.  Any fan will tell you it is nice having a background of success.

One other thing...if Luongo wants to come to Edmonton, I will pick him up from the airport .... biggrin

i know the chances of the canucks winning the cup are slim... but if you look at how cups have been won, you'll notice that the teams have been successful with their draft picks a couple years prior.... the avalanche have won primarily through the successful drafting of the nordiques, detroit have been able to pick up jewels like zetterberg in the latter rounds and the ducks had getzlaf and perry join with penner to form one of the better lines through the ducks run to the playoffs...

having a background of success means pretty much nothing.... if anything, people who decide to become fans of a hockey and look at success tend to be bandwagon supporters... i grew up in vancouver so i supported the nucks throughout the highs of '94 and the downs in their non-playoff years...

luongo would never go to the oilers, if he doesn't resign in vancouver, he'll be going back to the east imo

Wow was expecting a much better response then that I disappointed Rex, all you can come up with is hahaha your goalie is going to walk away!  Ouch!

Where exactly do you get this idea that our owner hangs out with the players and loves the media spotlight?  Does he do interviews in Edmonton that we don't know about?

As I said Gillis won't let Lui walk away for nothing I can guarantee that, I'm so positive I'm willing to bet on it, I guess you not as sure as I am!

Oh and unless you get a real goalie it won't be only this season you miss the playoffs!!  Hey Kirk where's your all star Garon??

Maybe next time lets get our facts straight mmmkay!
