Detroit completes collapse

It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this post.  The team one season removed from over 100pts has been elimnated from playoff contention.

"Well, we saw this one coming for a while now, but it still hurts to admit defeat."  GM MacDonald said in a press conference after their loss to bitter Central Division Rival St.Louis.

"It's a combination of errors in judgement on my part, and I do take full blame for this embarrasment.  Thank God I own the team, or I would surely be fired by now."

Detroit's misfortune can be directly attributed to two key factors: Firing Michael Therrien in mid season and replacing him with Dan Bylsmia, and not properly addressing the Goaltending position.

"First thing is first, Fleury is our starter.  We stand behind this kid, and still believe he can be one of the best in the game.  A combination of overwork and getting shafted in the ratings led to his problems this season.  It was my fault, I should have got him a better backup, someone who could spell him during this playoff drive.  Holmqvist already has his ticket punched to Europe next season, we won't be making the same mistake next year"

"As for the coaching change, I still think it was the right decision.  I knew that the team would suffer a little bit with the ratings drop, but I never imagined it would be this bad.  Bylsmia will have the better numbers next season, and we feel that in the long run it was still the best move."

"Detroit will be back next season."

I have to say the most ironic part of this story is that the Pens in the NHL fired Therien, hire Bylsma, go on a long winning streak.... whereas the BRHL2 Wings fire Therien, hire Bylsma, go on a long losing streak.... same method, completely different results....

To put the cherry on the cake of my season, Chicago went 6 for 5 on the power play against me last night.
