The Detroit Red Wings, who publicly announced its displeasure with Marc-Andre Fleury earlier continued his poor form in a 3-1 loss to division rivals St Louis. Now, barring a total collapse and Detroit winning all of its remaining games, the Blues are in the playoffs. However, the fight is on to claim 5th place in the conference with an important game against conference leaders Chicago tomorrow.
After Dustin Byfuglien put the Wings ahead in a 4-on-4 situation, Marc-Andre Fleury showed what he does with a lead. Lose it and lose it quickly. Just 14 seconds later, Jochen Hecht maintained his hot start, scoring his 5th goal and 11th point with the Blues despite playing on the third line. Linemate Andrew Brunette assisted on the goal while Sergei Zubov picked up the second assist to continue his point streak which now sits at 6 games. Pavel Datsyuk scored a heartbreaker near the end of the period, putting the Blues ahead 2-1 and giving them a lead they would not relinquish.
Although Detroit coach Dan Bylsma encouraged the Wings to try harder, he found that trying was just the first step towards failure as Eric Staal scored his 30th of the year to give the Blues the extra insurance against the Wings.
GAME NOTES Ladislav Smid was scratched for the third straight game in favour of Jaroslav Modry.... The Blues are on a 3 game winning streak.... It was Eric Staal's 50th game in a Blues jersey... Jochen Hecht and Pavel Datsyuk are on 2 game goal scoring streaks... Dan Bylsma was seen in a back alley beating Marc-Andre Fleury up....
Reports of Dan Bylsma beating up Marc Andre Fleury were false, however I can't confirm or deny the fact that he took his family hostage, and is mailing them back to Fleury piece by piece. One toe or finger gets mailed for every goal given up.
