Another $10,000,000 CASH Auction via PM

Due to varying interest I will give the potential for another $10,000,000 to be had. Please please send all offers via PM as I will be on and off the chatroom all night.

All offers will be considered until 12 pm ET at which point I will make a decision and send in the deal. Corresponding email must be confirmed within 1 hour of my email as I will go to bed soon after.

Good luck!

What happened with this auction Luke?

I assume since you didn't set a reserve price you were bound to move this cash to the highest bidder.

all of the highest bidder's werent available to send in deals that late, nor could i get ahold of them. So I went to negotiate individually with people at like midnight but I couldnt come up with any sort of deal:(

I would like to declare myself the winner of the 10 mill then since I made my offer to you publicly as the board states and therefore since you have no proof that there even was another deal nor made one that leaves me the sole winner !!

I just hope you plan on honoring your own public auction

Lol you are the sole winner of the award for disobeying auction guidelines. It says PM very clearly, not open board auction:)

Plus you weren't even around for me to let you know that you weren't the highest bidder in order to negotiate.

What the hell does any of that got to do with anything Luke.

I made an offer you turned me down saying you had better.

I beg to differ with you, and unlike the others you say you had, I have proof I made a bid.
If you had made a move with your cash I say nothing, but since you did not I am the highest bidder as far as i am concerned.

My confirmation was on this board as was yours when you posted the auction.
I expect you to honour your auction. If i am wrong in this assessment then i am more than happy to hear from all GMs on this matter.

This is exactly why need rules for public auctions.

I see both sides of this argument....

By announcing the auction you are committing yourself to trading the cash - and thus someone should have ended up with the money.

However, rules are that trade submissions require e-mails from both sides to be complete.

This is a tough one, for sure - I'd say that the trade should go through to whomever was the highest bidder at the end of the auction... but hard to know who that was since only Luke can see his own PMs...

lol Rod are you senile? I sent you a PM at like 8:00 trying to get a hold of you and had REALLY hoped you would get an offer in. Fact is, even if I did accept your offer, you weren't even around to confirm! I didn't get an email from you!

This is a non debate. The reason why I kept it private this time was because I wanted to attempt to contact some of the previous bidders but I thought as they might have gone offline after the first auction or thought it was all over.

You can ask Rex I was on at midnight trying to get him to send in a deal for $10,000,000. I was one of the only people trying ot make this auction work so dont shun me for not being available yourself.

This is the most retarded response I've ever seen. YOU WEREN"T HERE OR AVAILABLE!

Luke, did you actually do this?  at 12:00 EST did you e-mail a trade into the league and cc the winning PM bidder?  Maybe everyone who sent PM bids just checked their e-mail at 12:10 and if there was nothing there they assumed they had not won.

THere is nothing in this statement that leads me to believe that as someone who PM bid on the money, I needed to actually be around on ICQ or PM or anything.

I think you are bound, by this statement, to have e-mailed in a trade at 12:10.  If you did, and the other GM did not respond - then obviously disregard my comments... but if you did not, then I think some corrective action is required.

Steve

Bottom line is, we didnt get email confirmations on any deal, so there is no deal. Piss amongst yourselves who is at fault, but our rules do not change regardless of how a deal is made, both GMs need to have sent in confirmation emails.

Don't think there is much to discuss here, the league requires an e-mail from both parties to be sent in, just because you agree to a trade on the message board doesn't mean its binding for the league, if that was the case I would of taken one of NYR's players they had listed on there "Players for sale" post.

As for being bound by the e-mailing a trade at 12:00 part of the post, what is he supposed to do e-mail in a trade and hope someone e-mails him back in time? It was the deadline if someone was that interested in the money they could of made the effort of getting onto ICQ or the Message board for 5min to check on the status of there bid!

I honestly think the League must implement public auction rules, or ban public auctions altogether.  They are continually causing problems with people working behind the scenes deals or just blatantly not honouring their promises.  It's only a matter of time before something really bad happens.  Why don't we deal with this issue now when we've only had some minor problems before something more serious happens.

Another issue that I've come across is the pre-emptive trade submission.  This has got to be annoying to the league - and I don't think it should be allowed.  What do I mean by this?  Well lets take the PIT/10,000,000 example.

Say PIT posted his bid but had to leave for the night.  Rather than risk having what happed happen (ie, no e-mail confirmation) he could have at 8:00pm or whatever e-mailed the leauge with his side of the trade and cc'd luke.  If at 12:00 pm this was the leading bid, then Luke could have replied to it and it'd be done, and everyone would be happy.  If it wasn't the winning bid then Luke would not have replied to it and it would have been nullified because only one side submitted.  However, what if like 10 guys bid, and all submitted 1-sided confirmations and then luke could have just replied to the one he wanted.  It'd make sure the trade goes through no problem with the leauge, it'd follow all rules, and the GM's would be happy.  However, would the league be happy getting 9 submissions which were invalid?  Probably not.

Now as for Luke's specific case....

Well, if luke DID e-mail trade confirmation after 12:00 EST, then disregard the following...

If luke DID NOT e-mail trade confirmation after 12:00 EST, then that is just really bad trade etiquite.  Maybe he shouldn't be bound to what he posted in the auction thread, but this kind of behaviour really walks the line as far as what I feel is appropriate etiquite.

Though Steve, never in his actual post did he definitively say that the 10 million was for auction. He offered the potential for another 10 mill.... he then went on to say that he would make a decision at 12am EST.... obviously he didn't get enough in his opinion,

I have no problems with public auctions (highly disagree with private auctions as one GM told me they had been offered a deal but when I talked with the GM in question, he had no idea about it, therefore I pulled out of discussions with the other GM)... As long as it is posted in the auction post about set rules (i.e. Reserve price, End of Auction, etc.) I have no problem with that....

In my opinion a good public auction post is Pittsburgh's
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=85830&p=3&topicID=25626968&page=1
Clearly says what he wants in return, no reserve stated and a deadline set, everyone obeyed the rules and there were no problems....

Bad ones include in my opinion
Bryce's from the BRHL
http://brhlcommish.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=tradeblock&action=display&thread=4002
Though he states that the reserve is a 2nd round pick and young 4th line forward... but no one knows what the pick or forward is.... therefore, I wouldn't consider making an offer white if I wanted him....

Jordan's Forsberg's Auction
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=85830&p=3&topicID=24937668&page=1
Accepting a private offer in a public auction was poor form and when the bid was made public, both Jordan and Rex amazingly both forgot the offer.... "Miettinen, Lewis and ?Whitney" and then "may not have been whitney...was a ufa though." where the UFA turned into a 6th round pick....

I would push for a standardize auction form.... something like....
Player Available: X
Reserve Price: Y - i.e. 2nd round pick (Post when reserve has been met)
End of Auction: Z

All auctions should be public, a private auction should not be posted on the boards....
