The Phoenix Coyotes quietly fired Alain Vaigneault on Saturday, replacing him with the more offensive minded Marc Crawford. The team hoped that Crawford would bring some organization to the team's offense, which has been very dissapointing so far this season.
In his first game on the Coyotes bench on Sunday night Crawford guided the Coyotes to a 4-3 victory over the powerhouse Blackhawks. The Coyotes matched the Hawks shot-for-shot as the teams both put 25 shots on goal. Lehtonen had a strong game, returning from missing over a week with "fatigue", and the Coyotes offense was powerd by the newly-formed second line of Connolly, Hecht, and Selanne. And while the powerplay was a dissapointing 0/4, it was nice to see the team put away some even strength goals.
The win brings the team to 9 points out of 8th in the West. They have a long way to go, but GM Vardy will be giving his guys the next 10-15 games to get as close as they can to that playoff spot before deciding if he'll be a buyer or a seller at the deadline. Should be a fun few weeks!
