Thrashers make big splash. For this year? or next? or at all?

To Atlanta: Marty Turco, Nathan Horton and Brent Seabrook (along with2010 SJ4 and 2010 SJ5 once i pay my season 4 fees)

To SanJose: Zdeno Chara, Marty Reasoner, Nathan Oystrick, AndrewRaycroft, Raffi Torres and Todd White

The Thrashers saw the deal break down this way

Seabrook-Turco = Chara
Horton, 4th-5th > Raycroft-Torres-White-Reasoner-Oystrick

In California they probably see the Turco-Seabrook swap favouring Chara as they have Bryzgalov as their starter..

Thrashers are pleased to be able to land a couple premier young studs in N.Horton 77 who can get locked up 4-5yrs at 3.6-3.8 mill range, he would still then be a rfa.. also B.Seabrook 78 who can resign a 4-5yr deal at 3.2-3.4 range and still be rfa... landing a 82 overall stud goalie in Turco who is locked up to a nice nice 4 yr 4.75 mill contract. with guys llike loungo going up above 8 mill next year and other top goalies getting huge raises it is also a big boost but with C.Price in Atlanta could Turco be dealt for other help??

another factor was the new waiver draft coming into effect next year with the thrashers possibly being over the limit with guys like reasoner-torres possibly being plucked i figured it made sense to move them..

The teams new lines look like
c-lw-rw-d-d
Savard-Kovalchuk-Heatley-Ranger-Seabrook
Gomez-Hemsky-Mueller-Bieksa-Zanon
Kesler-Cole-Horton-Staios-Edler
Fillpulla-Kovalchuk-Schubert-Oduya-Ranger
Turco-Price..

the team know's that it is weak on defense at the moment. but they are waiting until the offseason as they hope to cash in Pit's 1st for either doughty or schenn for the future beast of the team replacing chara..

Yes, it was a huge trade for both teams

My tight cap situation coupled with Horton's and Seabrook's RFA status made them very available....

Parise has clearly out performed Horton in the NHL, so I had to make room for him on the top 6.

Since the acquisition of Bryzgalov, Turco has been my backup and at 4.7million....thats an expensive backup........so Turco was avalable as well

I decided that rather then deal them away individually for a handful of lesser assets, I would try to package them for a superstar.....hence, Chara.

Overall i added a very affordable superstar and solved my depth issues.....and most importantly, i have some cost certainty for next season....so ill be able to keep this team together for several seasons...

New lineup

Ovechkin------------Parise------------Drury
Michalek-----------Langkow----------Semin
Justin Williams------White------------Roenick
Pandolfo-----------Reasoner---------Torres

Chara------------Kaberle
Stuart------------Brewer
Leopold----------Hill

Bryzgalov
Raycroft

IMO, I have arguably the best top-4 dmen in the league.

I have 2 amazing scoring lines and 1 very capable 3rd checking line.

It should be a fun race in the West....

Thanks
John
