He was a guy I pegged in the last draft after the OIl had signed him out of Russia. I figured he had an outside shot at the 7th dman spot because a) Mathieu Roy is a terrible AHL dman, nevermind NHL. b) They hadn't signed Strudwick c) Chorney, Petry, Peckham clearly weren't ready for even spot duty. d) The last guy they pegged out of Russia was Jan Hejda.
Clearly I underestimated the OIlers ineptitude at coaching at every level. Triutt was a decent junior coach, but was clearly out of his element last eyar in Springfield with one of the worst coaching staffs ever assembled. YAY BUCKY!!! So now that Bucky gets promoted and they take off one of the 2 legit NHL level coaches of the staff in Rob Daum (the other being Bill Moores), and make Daum a roving assistant.
The Oilers are smert when it comes to hiring coaches. Gee who was it years ago that said we shoudl fire CrapT and hire our AHl coach in Hamilton. Oh that'd be me. We didn't, any guess who that coach was? Hello Claude Julien!! Then, I said fire MacT and hire our minor league coach? Where is Geoff Ward now? On Juliens staff in Boston. Yay.
However, I am still optimistic that Hrabal will get a realistic look in camp next year, hopefully with a new coaching staff from top to bottom.
