Newcomer Patty Marleau has been singled out by GM Simnor in attempts to calm the Av's change room. After being brought to town in a deal that saw highly touted Bobby Ryan and Steve Downie, as well as a first, Marleau has been nothing but problems. 'His first shot in pre-game he dinged Ellis with a head shot and put him out of action for a game. He called out line-mate Mike Grier in the change room between periods and took out former 3rd liner Chad Kilgers wife for dinner....this all coupled with the fact that he was -3 vs the Hawks, a team that we will be battling with all year!'
With the season well underway, Simnor has had time to assess his team and has mentioned his thoughts on a few players 'Very happy with Malkin, Rivet, Sharp, Marty and Keith'. Most notably Rivet, who is on pace for a career year and is starting to recieve some attention surrounding a possible Norris candidate. Sharp is having a solid two way year , and Marty is putting up solid number. Keith is shutting down oppositions top lines and doing a decent job for a youngster...'Malking is our franchise and is doing what a franchise player is supposed to do'
For the negatives, Simnor pointed out a few notables. 'Morrow is our leader, but for a guy who was at the tops of the league last year in goals, he is really lacking...maybe a few line shuffles in the near future...Mikey Grier and Mara are also both pissing me off. Being in the minus on our team just doesn't hack it. I expected a bit more from old man O'Donnell, but maybe he is holding it for the play-off push...'
In transfer news and gossip, the Av's are still thought to be looking for a legit #1 goalie. Thought be be going for Byrzgalov, until his price was jacked up, the Av's will be looking to a few basement dwelling teams (Boston, Anaheim, Nasville PM me if interested) to try and secure a top tender.
