Don't get me wrong, I respect the effort that has gone into the last few articles, but I'm just wondering.... should these articles that are written just about a guys own team really be front page worthy? And, thus worthy of the cash bonus? I'd think these would be more like team press releases (there is a section in the forum for these) and that front page articles should be more related to the whole league...
Right, I see your point, but one problem I have is that there are some Team Press Releases which were posted in the message boards which are of equal quality to the ones which have found their way onto the front page... Are these getting equal financial reward?
Unless an "own-team article" is amazingly well-written and insightful, no financial award should be granted.

i , for one, certainly hope that im receiving the same financial rewards writing up my team press releases.... and i also agree that the front page should show more league wide information and articles...
I can't speak as to the payouts, but I have a comment. Everyone wants to see more league wide articles etc for the main page, well, then do some.
Eric and myself have 50 things on the go always for the league, and rarely have time to do them, for those of you critiquing, or looking to earn money for your team, here's your opportunity.

Yeah, I completely agree. If Kirk wasn't bugging me so much trying to make trades I'd have more time for writing articles! Seriously though, I apprecieate any and all articles that make it to the front page, was just curious how the payouts are working with those articles vs. the team press releases which are posted in the forum.

Just my 2 cents.
Everything that is written is subjective on how much money I give to the person writing it. Kirk's articles of kissing himself in the mirror don't get much money. Most articles about their own team don't get much money, because the bigger audience you appeal to (the articles you write about the entire league) will be worth more.
I've got no problem posting team articles. Sometimes they've been good in the past. And in the past 2 years of putting stuff on the main page, that kind of work has come few and far between at times.
I've said time and time again if anyone is looking to write an article for the main page it get's posted.
99% of the time I don't pay for articles that are on the board. Because they're generally one-minded, and where do I draw the line between an article and a fantastic post about something else? I only pay for articles that are sent to me through e-mail and posted on the main page.
On a few seperate occasions I have paid for tasks that have been done via the message board such as someone helping me out to explain rules, GM's helping out with playoff activity by organizing a playoff pool or something like that. In general, it would take something rare like Gareth did this past playoffs, for me to pay for it on the board.
Also, Ryan has taken on the task of maintaining a pretty good team web site. So there are places to make money.
If you're looking for money and would like to write something for the main page, feel free to contact me about the issue so I know what you'll be writing about. And I can give you an estimate on how much I would pay.
I also take into consideration how much time it takes me to convert your work onto the main page. Sometimes it can be written in such a way that it takes me 5-10 minutes of organizing a way to make it look good. I don't know how many of you know / understand HTML code, and I'm lucky I have the aid of Front Page, but what get's typed into MS Word can be tricky to produce in HTML. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. It's on a case by case basis. Generally, I'll do my best to replicate when you've sent in. But I can't make promises.
With all of that being said. Most of what I said will change next year. As with the STHS and Web Client we plan to be using will allow us the ability to have articles posted quicker than me editing them myself. It plans to act as the way the team press releases section works now, but it would then put the articles on a more front and center position throughout the site.
Hope this answers most of your questions / thoughts.

For those of you wishing to easily convert your articles to html type it up, then copy past it as you were writing a mesageboard thread and click teh html tab that is in the features available to you for posting on the board, it converts rather nicely in most cases to an html file to send to eric, heck you can insert pictures etc easily as if it were a messageboard post and then clicking html

There it is, your annual smart idea. Now I only have to wait 2+ months to potentially get a new one.
Actually to add on to what Bryce said. It would be best for you to copy and paste the HTML into notepad and send it to me as an attachment as a .txt file. That way we wouldn't have to worry about some of the HTML getting lost / or completed when sending an email.
Pats suck.
