Maple Leafs mourn loss of top prospect Alex Cherepanov

The Maple Leafs are saddened to announce the passing of Alex Cherepanov. The 19 year old former 1st round pick collapsed on the ice in the KHL today and couldn't be resuscitated.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."

Garrett Hansford
Maple Leafs GM

Never good news. Pretty freaky that it happened during play too.

Just to set the record straight, and I'm not insinuating anything here, but he'll have a NTC attached to him and will remain a Leaf.

Snyder, Bourdon, Cherepanov... Three too many bright lives cut short.

This is unbelievable !  It seems like just yesterday he was sitting in the stands at draft being by passed by another team.

I hate to say this but maybe it is time we consider looking into how hard we push these kids to be the best.

Not sure if there was any other possible reasoning like drugs involved but, this is starting to become just a little to frequent for my liking.

I certainly bow my head in sorrow, no matter where you are from, a 19 year old should never have to lose his life.

It almost makes me sick thinking of where the game has gone, and it is not just hockey but all sports.

May life be better, where he rests !        disbelief.gif

Condolences to the Cherapanov family. Life is so much bigger than hockey.

There are youtube videos of his last shift and the team trying to recover him/carry him off the ice. Not gonna lie, if he was in the NHL, he wouldve been immediately taken out on a stretcher and straight to an ambulance. Sad to see this **** happen.
