the good GMs understand the process that you dont look at OV to determine the players value (ales hemsky 78 OV vs. ryan malone 79 OV)
so why take away info from us??
yeah i know bryce you are just such a wonderfully talented GM that you hate it... but for us not as intelligent (this is blatant sarcasm) why can we not just have a quick gander at someones OV??
thanks

I'm a little uncomfortable starting a whole new system with the OV turned off. Ask Kirk said, give us a year to figure things out, see which ratings are most important for the sim, then turn the OV off. I know it's bad to rely on OV, but with a completely new system it'll be very helpful to have the OV on so that we can have a little guidance when assessing how a player will sim...
How will the OV help you assess in anyway who will sim well? I'm in one STHS league where 90% of the dmen are between 64-66ov. OV is not important, has no relation at all to any results, and is a terrible, terrible tool to use for any reason. It is not info, it is not relevant, and I have always been strongly opposed to any OV rating when it has no effect on any results, but often is the be all and end all for many GMs.
Kirk brings up a valid point (shocking I know). And the RFA Calculator is something that I will be adjusting to reflect the lack of OV, ditto the tags.
Please do not interpret this as me dismissing any concerns, but wanting OV as a guideline is useless, it guidelines nothing. Based on the widely used STHS ratings, the star players are low 70 ov. The top goalies the same. Now how does that help you evaluate someone? Especially when like I said most dmen are in the 65-67ov range. It provides no guideline or assistance at all.
Also one other question someone emailed me. PO = Potential Has no effect on the sim, and for ratings wise we're just going to put everyone at 99. It has no effect on the sim and is more a feature for sim rerate leagues.

... but I still don't undertand why the need to turn OV off - if you don't like it, just cover that column with your hand when looking at the computer screen. It's not doing any harm by being there is it?
I guess the only thing that concerns me about a system I don't know and that I've heard groups ratings in very closely is, is this just going to make the games more of a crapshoot? Maybe some testing results would put the league's mind at ease more as to what we're really getting.

Been in a couple of STHS leagues and I will tell you once you have learned the interface, it is a much better system with a ton more info, including some not so needed info. What the hell, it is much better, time for some of you guys to give up your comfort blanket and really strive for something better !

Gonna have to be changed. The max salary helps, lets hear some suggestions. How do we make sure that teams dont send down a Toews or Gagner to minors? Make it mandatory that they play in pros if they played more than 50 NHL games? They have eligibility if they played more than 40 in minors?
