Discussion Topic - Subjective ratings

Currently the subjective ratings are SP-SK-ST

Subjective ratings are the worst, and often are the ones that lead to the biggest arguments and headaches.

What I want to try and accomplish is gather your thoughts, and see if there is an effective way to make these stat based in some way. Any ideas you have would be welcome, though note I will very likely be pointing out why it can't work, but what I hope is we can come to a idea or ten, that gives us a way of factoring them in.

Please feel free to post any ideas you may have.

Bryce

I've seen ST based on hieght before.  That whole bigger is stronger theory.

Well if there was times available for each player for a fastest skater and a stickhandle around the pilons type thing then we could get SP/SK, but I suspect such stats do not exist.

As for strength I suggest using the following stats:

weight, height
- tall and heavy = strong
- tall and light or short and heavy = middle
- short and light = weak

hits
- more hits = strong

fighting majors (if available)
- more fights = strong

Obviously goalies will probably only be able to use weight/height, but thats cool.

Oh, strength should incorporate age too...

Older = stronger - OLD MAN STRENGTH

i like idea of adding hits into the strength rating.. but guys i think the thing that makes the Forward-D-man rates solid like they are is the subjectivity.. with it all stats based no way kovalchuk goes near 80 ST but he is a very strong nhl player strong on the puck which is represent by judgement by powers who do ratings which makes it more real imo..

i think if we were able to expand our list of 3 challenges to 5-6 it could eliminate alot of beotching.. but i dunno just a thought..

I think the reason the goalie rratings are so bush league is because their is no subjectivity and it is ALL stat based no??

only problem is that there are problems with using hits, as some arena personnel put more hits for their own team than anothers... check out florida's ratings compared to others and you'll noticed a big difference...

you could normalzize the hits

you take a players hits/minute (need to do it per minute so 4th liners don't get screwed) and you divide it by a team's average hits/minute
