Today at Rexall Place the Edmonton Oilers officially announced that they have hired James Love to be their new General Manager. The Calgary native has lots of experience in hockey and despite growing up as a die hard Flames fan he says it was a no-brainer to take over the Oilers squad.
"Ya I was a Flames fan, and I'm sure I will catch some flack from the family back home but in Edmonton I see a hockey mad market that is crying out for a competitive team. The past management really ran this team into the ground and I see this as an opportunity to prove myself against the best in the business, and I am looking forward to the opportunity", commented newly appointed GM Love.
The Oilers are thin on talent but with the like of Ilya Kovalchuk, Marc Savard, Martin Biron and Maxim Afinogenov there is a glimmer of hope. The Oilers also hold two 1st round draft picks and two 2nd round draft picks in this summers draft.
"There is a lot of work to be done, there will be some growing pains but the fan base here is very intelligent and they will realize that is what it will take for us to become an elite team in the BRHL2. I look forward to the challenge." -- GM James Love.
