RE: Trade Discussion

its quite alright by me.. the deal... cause 2 things..

one i get rid of a sick sick contract.. and 2... i took blum away from in teh draft... and i did it in a bad manner... he knows it.. i knew it.... it was a low blow by me.. so i promised him at some point i would give him blum... and this is the time..

he wins teh deal... but i got good out of it as well..

sick deal Rex, getting a top flight D prospect for a goalie whose 1-10 in the AHL.

agreed, nice deal... just wondering, doesn't gerber's 5 mill salary put you over the cap?

nah i had pratt get called up for whatever reason.. his 1.49 gets sent down and i am still under cap.

and as for the deal, yeah not that its anyones business but me and Dave were talking during the draft because i was after his picks.. he twisted my arm and took blum who is who i wanted and we talked about evening it up down the road... this is that deal...

i know montoya hass a bad record right now, but lets be honest.. he has a 1-way contract next year and their GM likes the guy and was part of the management team that topok the guy in NYR... he hasnt even been the problem in SA this year from everything ive read..

bottom line he gets a guy who is in NHL next year and gets cap relief... i get a guy with ETA of 2010...

fair deal IMO.

wondering what everyone thinks of my deal with detroit...

i lose gonchar on my blueline but i get more help up front (including a playmaker) as i need a bit more scoring.... also lose 1 mill in salary, i get roy signed for a three year deal at 3 million (quite respectable) and burns is signed at a respectable salary in the nhl that allows me to resign him at a decent price....

Three recent trades in Phoenix:

Trade #1:
To STL: Brian Pothier
To PHO: Mathias Tjarnqvist

Trade #2:
To NAS: CBJ2 (2009)
To PHO: Radim Vrbata + Jim Slater

Trade #3:
To DAL: Brendan Morrison + PHO 4 (2010)
To PHO: Tom Preissing

Net Result:
IN: Mathias Tjarnqvist + Radim Vrbata + Jim Slater + Tom Preissing
Out: Brian Pothier + CBJ 2 (2009) + Brendan Morrison + PHO 4 (2010)

Assets added:
Solid depth checker (Tjarnqvist)
Scoring up front (Vrbata)
Cap space (1.15 Million)
Bodies for next year (Slater and Vrbata)

Assets lost:
Downgraded 3rd pairing offensive D (Pothier to Preissing)
Offensive forward (Morrison)
Picks

Justification:
Swapping Morrison for Vrbata in my lineup was the key action with all these deals.  Morrison didn't really have good enough rates for top 2 lines, but is not rated defensively enough as a 3rd or 4th liner.  So he didn't have a home on my team.  He was also overpaid, and a UFA.  Vrbata brings top 2 line scoring, and will have rates next year (though, will be overpaid).  Swapping Pothier for Preissing in my lineup won't have much effect, neither are great defensemen.  The biggest advantage in this switch is the salary cut, which will allow me to call up Thomas Pock (78DF).

Anyway - I welcome opinions (good or bad LOL)

Overall, I like te total package, don't like you trading youth, but given your expectaions, and your breakdowns, the net makes you a better team (and Im still higher on Slater than both)

To Phoenix- M.Garon, 500k
TO Atl- A.Raycroft- C.Bourque

Really don't understand this deal on kirk's part.... other than saving a bit of money from the salary between garon and raycroft, it makes no sense... both raycroft and garon are having poor seasons, but for a cup contending team to downgrade on a backup when his starter has barely the stats to be one, decreases his chances of getting past the first round imo....

This is Kirk....isn't there always another deal coming? My guess is the extra salary was important for another move.

I don't really understand this deal for San Jose... Giving up one of the best goaltenders in the league, plus two very talented young players and two late draft picks for Chara and a few pending UFAs. It makes zero sense to me.

"Big move made sunday in atlanta..

To Atlanta: Marty Turco, Nathan Horton and Brent Seabrook (along with2010 SJ4 and 2010 SJ5 once i pay my season 4 fees)

To SanJose: Zdeno Chara, Marty Reasoner, Nathan Oystrick, AndrewRaycroft, Raffi Torres and Todd White"

Gosh, lots of value given up for Chara; however, I'm just happy to see that freak of a simmer go to the West. He single handedly took down the Sabres in the Eastern Final.

To use Kirk's favorite word, I'd say Chara is in many ways the very definition of Nasty!
