I still have the mancrush on Matt Greene, and I still hate this deal, but I couldnt afford him to be my 7th dman (Souray is on his way to Beantown).
Greene struggled at the end of last year, but he had a broken freaking ankle. I think he'll do real well in LA, and I never would have made this deal if it werent for my defensive depth.
i agree i got good value on carlo george.. like u did on clark..
Now let's get into something we can both sink our teeth into....
Boston trades Matt Greene to Floridafor Eric Perrin, 32nd OV, and a 7th in 2009
Greene sucks horribly. The fact that he got a good rated Perrin and just outside the first round for him is an undeniable steal. Nice work Bryce....bye bye Mancrush. ;)
Greene was a risk, but a worthwhile one. He is 23, phsyical, and a legit NHL dman. Perrin is decently rated, but Greene's IT, ST, DF ratings make him every bit as useful. I gave up the 32 because I got the guy 10 years younger. If he is a solid #4-5 in LA, and they really have nobody else even if Doughty plays in the NHL, I will be very happy.
Pittsburgh has but one thing to say about what you are saying George, and although during the trade talks Kirk was having with me I brought up his game average for a season a thousand times, I also understand that if he is able to run a few seasons with little to no injury then the deal was well worth it. I have a NHL calibre player for sure and one that has first or second line potential on a full time basis. I gave up a 28th OV.
Just for your information the 28th ov pick makes the NHL, or better put, makes a significant show in the NHL only 44 % of the time.
Here are all 28th ov picks since 1980 to 2001 the year Carlo was actually drafted:
GMS PTS
1980 Steve Ludzik 424 - 139 1981 Steve Gatzos 89 - 35 1982 Rene Badeau 0 - 0 1983 Jeff Jackson 263 - 86 1984 Doug Houda 561 - 82 1985 Mike Richter 666 - 11 1986 Kent Hawley 0 - 0 1987 Daniel Marois 350 - 210 1988 Paul Holden 0 - 0 1989 Mike Craig 423 - 168 1990 Brady Semchuk 1 - 0 1991 Jim Campbell 285 - 136 1992 Paul Brousseau 26 - 4 1993 Shean Donovan 856 - 226 1994 Johan Davidsson 83 - 15 1995 Jan Hlavac 436 - 224 1996 Paul Skrbek 12 - 0 1997 Brad Defauw 9 - 3 1998 Ramzi Abid 68 - 30 1999 Khristian Kudroc 26 - 4 2000 Justin Williams 459 - 306 2001 Adrian Foster 0 - 0
Average Minus Richter 208 - 79
2001 Carlo Colaiacovo 101 - 32
28th ov lookback 0 Superstars 3 Stars 7 True Nhlers with 200 plus games career 7 Cups Of Tea 5 No Shows
I don't think Carlo is a bad pick up at even his injured best. Imagine what he will do full time on a poor leaf team where he gets much more minutes and hopefully stays healthy.
Clark, 2 seasons, three with a tag. Colaiacovo...let's talk about how many games per season he has played...
53 games max in the last 4 seasons.(Including a 30 last year, 35 in 05-06) A whopping 64 the year before, preceded by a nice spanky 37 game season.
I wasn't trying to compare my trade for a first to yours, but Clark with three seasons is infinitely more valuable than a 25 year old "prospect" that averages 40 games a season.

If Cola wasn't so oft injured, I would be on your side. And you are also suggesting that your drafting would be as consistently bad as the guys that made those draft choices.;)

It is a calculated risk, for sure...might be a useful blueliner. On a team with little experience he might get some play.

the way i look at it, i overpaid for a veteran defenseman but it gives me a key piece to my team....
you're looking at my team as it stands, where as most of the top teams, including yours are pretty much set... i need two second line forwards and have over 25 mill to spend on them...
granted i may not get exactly who i want, but once my team is complete i'm pretty sure i'll be a cup contender...
wonder who's going to be the new center for the thrashers now that jokinen is gone and heatley will be going back to the wing.... still kovy and heatley on the wings will make the thrashers a strong regular season team, but the kovy curse will strike the thrashers in the playoffs
no heatley liked his time at center last year the line combinations look like this so far for the thrashers Hemsky 78-Heatley 83- Kovalchuk 86- Chara 86- Ranger 78 Cole 79- Doan 82- Mueller 74- Zubov 81- P.Martin 77
yeah, which should mean the position changes that were in place should be reversed to their original positions, i remember discussing the jokinen rule with either bryce or eric was that we would be getting one a season... after the season ends, i was under the impression that the player would then switch back to their default position... eric or bryce, correct me if i'm wrong?
also, just looking at the new thrasher roster, kirk has 8 defensemen that can only play on his pro roster but lacking depth up front... that being said, the forwards he has are quality... just a pity only mueller and pahlsson can play center...
and heatley is staying at center. the olli jokinen rule coming into affect means we dont get another guy to switch to a strange position... the players switched last yr cant be switched or what was the point of the rule to begin with? not wanting it to happen again they took the rule out.. thats the way i understand it..
Kovalchuk86-Heatley 83- Hemsky 78-Chara 86- Ranger 78 Cole79-Doan82-Mueller74- Zubov 81- Martin 77 Schubert 75- Pahlsson 74- Mccarthur 69- Zanon 75- Staios 76 4th line to be determined.. and Martinek 75 will be playing as my number 7 d-man but on a nightly basis..
i need to move some picks for a solid couple depth players is all..
Year: 2008: Col 1, Buf 1, Edm 2, LA 2, Van 2, Bos 2, StL 2, Clb 2, Pit 3, StL 3, Van 3, Cal 3, Edm 3, Pho 3, Ana 4, Phi 4, NYI 4, Clb 4, Dal 4, Van 5, SJ 5, Edm 5, Car 5, Nsh 6, Dal 6 Year: 2009: Pit 1, Clb 1, SJ 1, Nsh 1, Pho 3, SJ 3, Clb 3, StL 4, SJ 4, Atl 5, Phi 5, Bos 5, StL 5, SJ 5, Atl 6, Bos 6, Pho 6, SJ 6, Atl 7, StL 7, Bos 7, SJ 7
the team feels they should be able to get that done..
Kirk has increased his team value drastically in the last month. Note to the league: stop letting kirk beat you- he's not stupid. He's actually quite smart. If he's trading with you, it's likely because HE'S WINNING.
