this was never brought up in any kinda rule suggestion im very curious to what happened at the dispersal and how these players were accidently alloud to be drafted. With 24 other g.m's in the league making moves months and months ago at deadline to let go of some UFA's and build for the future and then possibly getting a chance to sign them back knowing the rules. That UFA's dealt during the season CANT be tagged..again very curious to what exactly happened at the dispersal draft??

My opinion is...our teams are completely different than what they were, and how are we to have any rights to any UFA's tags this year if we aren't allowed them?  Are we to sit until FA starts and overpay them?  BTW...thanks for running the dispersal draft, even though i couldn't be there.

Tampa used 2 lemiuex tags BTW Brunette and also Modin were both upcoming UNTAGGABLE UFA's he has both them is this legal??
and sami kapanen (semenko)
and also kimmo timmonen (Lemiuex)(who was a taggable asset as he was on LA's team ALL yr)

again i'll ask what happened at the dispersal??

u would have the rights to tag players like EVERYONE ELSE.. if the player had played all yr with one of the team u guys were taking over then that TAGGABLE asset should have been added into the dispersal like Kariya-Selanne-Timmonen-Conklin to name a short few..

but to have all 6 teams get to AUTO fill ALL three tags (pretty much) with the players not even having to meet any GP qualification is crazy to me it totally changes the whole UFA scene this offseason for alot of team.. it is going to be INSANE the ammount of dollars people are going to toss at ufas with like 7-8 of the top 12-13 UFA's not avaible anymore. Many teams moved assets at the deadline based on RULES that are in this league i really am confused how the rules of the league were forgetten at the dispersal..

or were their new rules put in place where we all get to use the tags without having to meet the GP qualification? if so just an explanation is all im looking for

if it was a one time thing just for this dispersal i think the rest of the league should have been notified/informed of the decision.

Yes Kirk that is exactly what happened evey team in the dispersal draft was allowed to pick guying to fill there tags.  I have Kozlov and Boyle.  I understand what you are saying but many of the teams in dispersal were kind of ran into the ground and if it wasn't for them making this rule the talent to pick from would have been thinner.  From what I can figure guys like BrindAmour Boyle Timonen would have been taggable by there respective teams anyway?

no brindamour-rolston-smyth-brunette-chelios-etc all shouldnt be aloud to be tagged. They didnt play a full season at all with their respective teams... If the rules was made where no GP needed to be met i think the league should have been notified prior to the dispersal draft as this new wrinkle really does effect most of the league as almost everyone is shy of the cap and a majority of us were going to dip into ufa market but now with so many top UFA's gone their will be 6-8 mill per yr offers on SerGAY Federov which is funny..

****ing cut it out!!!

I was there last night, Kirk, and there was little talent there in the draft. If you feel that your championship dreams are now crushed because the 6 worst teams in the league got to use their tags, then quit.

Whats more fair: Letting the new GMs use the tags like every other team had a chance to, or forcing them to pass on what little talent was left there so you can have a chance at some more free agents? Don't punish the new GM's for the sins of those who came before them.

I am a big believer in the free market system, and a firm anti-communist crusader, but giving the charity to those teams helps ensure that they will have a better chance. Lets face it, the dispersal teams don't really have a shot this season, short of GM miracle or sim playing favorites. If giving them some of the free agents keeps them competative, and keeps them in the league so we don't have to do this again every year, then do it.

Im sorry that the league didn't run every rule it makes by you for approval, im sure Eric and Bryce will think twice next time.

All teams drafting were able to fill out their tags with UFA players, regardless of where they played last season. In an effort to keep a competitive balance it was decided this was the best course of action. As Ian pointed out, this is about competitive balance, and in an effort to make everyone competitive it was decided this was the best route to take.

Stop being such a frickin drama queen.

Sounds fair enough to me. Definitely throws a bit of a wrench in people's plans but in all honesty it makes sense. It'd be nice to not have a dispersal draft and just have 30 quality GMs and this is a step towards that.

Quick question. So any UFA's that were drafted here and "tagged" will have a 1 year contract correct?
