(AP) The parade barely over, JP Dumont, Marco Sturm and Daniel Alfredsson stood together having a drink in the underbelly of Wrigley Stadium.
"Rumours....they aren't even just rumours anymore..." started Marco Sturm. "As far as I am concerned, I will be the first to go."
That is what comes with a talented team. Players who need salary increases on a cap tight team end up down the road. Rumour has it that Jokinen may be on the move in Atlanta as well. "I don't see how we can keep him." GM Shuck is rumoured to have said.
"It is a bit disappointing, but I really wanted to win a cup. And since I have, I guess it will have to do." said Alfredsson, resolved that he is likely to move.
GM Bachul wasn't coy about the situation either. "We knew that economics will play on every decision going forward. We love all those guys. JP, Sturm and Alfie are a big part of the cup run. We appreciate what they have done but we are in the reality of a cap world. If we have to take a back seat for a year or so, we have to, but we are going to try to rebuild the team while still keeping the possibility of a run."
When asked about Sturm specifically...."We have something very close."
