Joe Thornton, Vincent Lecavalier, Lubomir Visnovsky, Andrei Markov, Daniel Alfredsson. Not exactly what you would call the most physical line up in the BRHL. Don't tell that to the Thrashers.
The Thrashers have been banged up by a much more physical team than what they had expected, and the Hawks don't intend to let up.
"I think that we have enough experience here to know that this is what it is all about. No one cares about 2nd place. Getting to the finals means nothing to us. I am sure if you ask the Thrashers, they will say the same. You don't feel good being a bridesmaid. You want to kick the bride in the head." said captain Joe Thornton.
"And being a team that can win the big one. You don't want to head off into the offseason with the questions about your heart, commitment and your willingness to pay the price. And right now our guys are paying the price."
Vincent Lecavalier agreed. "You don't get a lot of chances to be a champion. You have to take that effort and channel it into something that is effective. We decided talking to everyone in the room that we need to have 100% from everyone, and if you weren't ready to bring it, then don't even lace them up."
Key acquisitions of veterans Jason Blake and Daniel Alfredsson have helped. "Neither Danny or I have won a cup. You start getting into the later part of your career and wonder how many shots do you get at it. This is my first finals. I don't want to feel what it is like to lose in the finals."
Alfredsson agreed. "I have been late in the playoffs, and know what it takes to get there. Everyone has a dream of winning it all. Hopefully this is our time. And if we lose this series, one thing is for sure.....we are going to leave it all out there on the ice."
